About Me

*Unfortunately I am not currently able to host as I am away from home doing some traveling*

Hi there! My name's Julia and I'm from Silver Spring, Maryland in the US. (That's about 5 minutes outside of Washington, DC.) I just finished up a job working as a social worker, and am now doing some traveling around Europe.

I'm super friendly and open and I love meeting new people. I spent five months in Austria and four in Tanzania, and I really enjoy expanding my worldview by spending time abroad. I love food (cooking it and eating it) and I like seeing live music when I can. I'm also a fan of outdoor activities like hiking and camping, but also love exploring cities on foot, checking out museums, cafes, bars, and whatever a place has to offer.

Ich kann ein bisschen Deutsch sprechen, weil ich einen Austausch in Oesterreich gemacht habe. Aber das war vor sechs Jahre. Ich muechte mein Deutsch zu Ueben! It's pretty bad. Unfortunately I've forgotten a lot.

Music, Movies, and Books

It's hard to pick favorite books, but here are a few:
"Kindred" by Octavia Butler, the "His Dark Materials Trilogy" by Philip Pullman, "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brian, "Breakfast of Champions" and "Slaughterhouse V" by Kurt Vonnegut, and "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

Some musicians and bands I like are Balkan Beat Box, Manu Chao, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Alison Krauss and Union Station, and Jethro Tull. I also like afrocaribbean music and reggaeton, so I have a pretty wide music taste haha.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent 10 days backpacking in the Usambara mountains in Tanzania. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been!
