About Me
I’m rewriting my bio since it’s been a while.
About me: I’m a traveler, history enthusiast, and lifelong learner. I believe that travel is more than just visiting new places; it’s about connecting with people and cultures that shape our understanding of the world.
My goal isn’t to visit every country on earth, but to explore places that resonate with something deep within me.
I was born and raised in Boston, USA—my home. My family is originally from Vietnam, so I grew up balancing American life while staying connected to my roots. I appreciate the opportunities I’ve had in the USA and am aware of my privileges that my family worked so hard for me to have. I work full time for a European company (thank God since they value TIME OFF). I once had a job where I get 5 days off a year. FIVE!! No way I can ever go back to that life even if it paid me a million dollars. See, i don’t chase money in life. Money is easy to make, but I’d rather chase freedom. The freedom to do what I want on my own time.
While I’ve found “success” (however you want to describe it) the American dream sometimes makes you feel like you always need to strive for more. We live in an age of material wealth and spiritual poverty
Traveling shifts my perspective. Meeting people from different cultures and languages, and finding common ground, is such a serendipitous experience. I can’t believe I have so much in common with someone from Morocco more than I do back at home
Why do I travel? We all love traveling—it’s why we’re here! But for me, it’s about seeking truth, both spiritually and historically. I love my country, but traveling opened my eyes to its past actions. Returning to Vietnam, I was confronted with the reality of the war. What I learned growing up in the USA was different from what I saw there. It’s a very humbling experience . And THIS is why I travel: to understand the stories and perspectives of others. If my country has wronged yours, I want to apologize first. I want to be the example that I’m not my government. I would also love the opportunity to learn from you. I want to know about life where you grew up and what your country is known for.
One day I hope to go to Russia, Syria, Iraq, Iran, just some of the few countries my country is beefing with. so if you’re from these places, I love to know more about it.
I wish for a world without borders, just like John Lennon’s “Imagine.” I’ve visited many countries, but it’s the experiences and connections that stay close to my heart.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading and listening to me yap . I look forward to meeting you 😃😃
Note - I don’t usually need a place to stay, just to find locals and chat and explore!
Side note - I don’t intend to use this app for dating purposes. While I’ve had great experiences, I feel the need to mention this due to some unsafe encounters.
My favorite philosophy:
- everything you love will most likely be lost but in the end, love will return in a different way 🥺🫶🏻
- Maktub (مكتوب): Arabic for destiny or fate. Everything in life and all the choices we make or didn’t make leads us exactly to where we need to be ❤️
- “your last day on Earth, the person you became meets the person you could have become.”
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Looking to meet up with like minded people and travel ❤️
I prefer to meet locals of a country who want to meet tourists like me too 😊.
I’ve met so many people around the world. We are more similar than we are different. Each time I take a piece of the country back home with me and I hope to leave a piece of me in that country too
