À propos de moi

LIFE MISSION:
To love and be loved extravagantly.
To enjoy life and work so others can enjoy theirs too.
To ease suffering and save many lives.

ABOUT ME:
I like making people laugh.
I also like deep talks and giggling.
Also espresso and fresh flowers and cats and books.
...dammit, I like a lot of things.

Myers Briggs: ENFP
Enneagram: Type 7 (but like, also, kind of a 4).
Instagram: @ohcaptainjulia

PHILOSOPHY:
The teachings of Jesus and Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching totally changed my life.
I believe in unconditional love, love that doesn't get tired. I think it's the only thing that will heal our world because love empowers people to be who they were made to be. I love loving people and want to help the world reach its full potential, one conversation and laugh at a time. I want to teach people how to do relationships well and feel deeply and get the most life has to offer us. Life is the most amazing gift!

MY GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
(each given to me as a different lesson learned while traveling)

1. Live in Mystery, Rest in Trust
2. Live with open hands
3. Practice Radical Acceptance
4. Display unreasonable optimism
5. Do hard things
6. Show up and Participate fully
7. Play like a Child
8. Love extravagantly and sacrificially
9. Live in the here and now
10. Allow things to pass
11. Take Risk
12. Choose Adventure over Fear
13. Choose Radical Honesty
14. Let people see you
15. Be authentic and raw

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

This is a magical community. Couchsurfing has allowed me to have the most fantastic experiences with the most incredible people. Some of my favorite memories in life have come from the people on here.
It began as another resource for travelling sustainably/affordably when I was just starting out, hungry for adventure and to live life to the fullest without yet having the means to do so. Over time, it has become the adventure itself.
One amazing person, family, couple after the next taking me into their homes or coming into mine, and being unreasonably kind and generous. So many late night conversations, heart connections, and mind boggling meals have been shared. I'm overwhelmed by how good people can be, and how sweet it is when we trust and take care of each other. The action of opening up your home or taking in a stranger (and perhaps feeling like family immediately) is unfortunately counter-cultural; it's rebellious against the way of fear, of living a life of safety at the cost of your humanity. Every time I make amazing new friends out of strangers, it feels like joining a revival, like experiencing the Way. I'm on couchsurfing to keep participating in this way of living :)

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I helped redesign an NGO in a Refugee camp in Iraq.
I hitchhiked across Croatia and wild camped throughout the islands.
I officiated my best friends highlining wedding in Oregon and then lived out of a van for a month up through British Columbia and Squamish.
I lived out of my best friend's Toyota Highlander for almost two months in the Desert, working remotely and rock climbing a lot. Happiest and most contented time of my life.
I got to white water raft the Nile River in Uganda.
I played soccer with street kids in Peru.
I got to hold children from the Ugandan slums as they fell asleep.
In Tijuana, I got to provide hope to prostitutes in the Red Light District and residents in the Heroin Camps, as we sat and cried together. So many hugs and conversations that helped me understand a little more and created more space in my soul for love.
I backpacked to the base of the Grand Canyon in 105 degree heat and had a spiritual experience with some deer five feet from me in the river for an hour.
I road tripped and rock climbed across America with my brother, living out of a van for a month.
I backpacked Glacier, Yellowstone, Redwoods, Crater Lake, Acadia, Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Parks. I climbed my first multi-pitch on Mt. Ryan in Joshua Tree National Park, the last 150 ft in the dark with no headlamp (oops.)
I hitchhiked 3,000 miles by myself throughout the West Coast for a month, and 300 miles through Utah to Indian Creek.
I've climbed a lot of stuff that scared me.
I learned how to ride and keep a motorcycle, even though it broke down in traffic about 20 times.
Blues danced in the middle of the street at 3am under streetlights while falling in love and all across the country with so many beautiful strangers.
Highlined over a 200ft gorge in Canyonlands at GGBY festival, but more importantly met soulmates that weekend.
Went through deconstructing all of my beliefs and reconstructing them over many years, in a metaphorical dark night of the soul. And I only went crazy for like, a year!
I've fallen in love with about 1,000 people in my life, and the number just keeps growing. But most significantly, I am continuously doing the work to love more fully and open heartedly the people brought along my path, even when it terrifies me and even when intimacy reveals the worst in me. By far the most amazing thing I've done is to give myself to this work and continuously grow in courageous love.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I love to cook with people. If we have time, I would love to chop vegetables, talk and break bread together. I can offer passionate discourse about the world with an optimistic angle.
