About Me

ABOUT ME

Well, what can I tell you?
I'm a pretty normal Belgian student. I like to party, meet new people and just relax and hang out.
I grew up in Leuven but after coming back from 6 months of volunteer work (and enjoying the city life) in NYC I decided I couldn't handle spending 4 more years in the city I grew up in and already knew so well.. So at the last moment I enrolled in the University of Ghent where I studied Criminal Justice before coming back to Leuven to get my masters degree after which I travelled for about two months in Thailand and India. Right now I am working in Brussels to save up money for my next big trip to Asia.

PHILOSOPHY

"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." Ok, I admit, I stole this from Gandhi.. but he had some pretty smart things to say.

Interests

I love travelling, photography, reading and recently discovered the dancing queen in me while taking some salsa lessons. And hey, who can say no to a good party?

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: La Haine, A beautiful mind, Good will hunting,..
Music: lots :) really depends on the mood I'm in. Reggae in the sunshine, salsa on summer nights, hiphop before going out, pretty much anything you can dance to while going out, classical when dealing with a hangover.
Books: endless list! Latest discovery is Jonathan Saffran Foer. Other than that Nicholas Evans and Ken Follett are amongst the favourites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So many, but if I had to choose one: I lived in Harlem and worked in the South Bronx for a couple of months and I had to take this bus where I'd see the weirdest things! One night after working late I was on my way home sharing the bus with a drugged out guy refusing to pay the bus driver but handing out one dollar bills to the black lady next to me, calling her 'a good sistah' and thanking her for being respectful and praising her beautifully braided hairdo. Meanwhile he was waving his keys around telling everybody how proud he was to have his own place to live. Across from me was what I would call the perfect image of a pimp. Green suit, green hat, green crocodile leather shoes, sunglasse, dreadlocks and a golden ring around each finger. Some nights you don't need movies to keep you entertained.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Besides my (mostly) friendly and fun personality and a good conversation hmm.. I enjoy cooking yummie veggie meals, so if you're into that I would for sure offer that as a thanks for hosting me.
