About Me

I am working on a PhD in history when I'm not procrastinating at my ceramics studio. Sometimes with dissertation-related clay projects :) I love learning about the past and the way it shapes the present. Check out my ceramics on IG @ceramicarchives

IG @ceramicarchives

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To learn from locals about their cities and to share knowledge about the place I live. I've been very lucky over the years to be connected with fantastic local hosts through friends who have helped me understand their cities in a way that would otherwise be very difficult as a newcomer. I enjoy local histories, commemorative practices and places, DIY spaces, sports rivalries, and favorite urban walks. I can host after January 6, 2020.

I also spend so much time in archives and libraries for my research, so it's nice to get out sometimes!

Teach, Learn, Share

I taught ceramics at a children's summer camp for almost a decade, and have continued to practice the craft over the years. I'd love to learn more about other ceramics techniques, traditions, or history, and am happy to teach what I know. I also can teach linocuts and other printmaking styles.

I also am passionate about local history, whether it is strolling around and hearing stories about things that happened in different spots, or more formal presentations. I'm happy to share my knowledge, specifically regarding the Spanish Civil War exile in France, WWII resistance and Liberation, and postwar commemorative practices.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook a vegan meal, care for a pet, teach an art project (with the right supplies), practice English conversation, or help you study modern history.
