For me Couchsurfing is for sure the best way to travel and experience new places. I'd always prefer it over a fancy hotel. Also hosting other travelers at my own place is great, so you get some of the special travel-feeling carried to your home.
I had some great hosts in Israel, Ireland, Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Germany as well! And a lot of interesting guests on my couch already!
