About Me

ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Julia, I've lived my whole life in Amsterdam (except when I was a baby, then we lived in the Caribbean). I currently live above a library, the Vondelpark and all of the big museums are very closeby.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I currently cannot host anyone yet because my space is too small but I'm hoping to be able to in the future so I can give something back to the people who maybe want to host me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experiences were really good, met very nice people!

Interests

I listen to music a lot (Bob Dylan, Blues men like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, but also Joni Mitchell, Donovan, Billie Holiday, Paul Simon, Bert Jansch, Otis Redding and contemporary music like Adam Green, the Black Keys and Laura Marling. I practice yoga, read books, go to parties, like to see movies with my friends, visit museums, travel, enjoy cooking (mostly vegetarian) and drawing. I have a special interest in European Jewry and Heritage, a topic on which I graduated in October 2014 (I studied Archaeology as a main field). I am now doing a PhD in Early Modern Jewish History and Legal History in Amsterdam and the Hague.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all sorts of literature, for instance Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Dostojevski, Virginia Woolf, Evelyn Waugh, Amos Oz and other world literature, but also Dutch writers such as Harry Mulisch, Gerard Reve, Godfried Bomans and Annie MG Schmidt.. My favorite movie is Tilsammans by Lukas Moodysson and 70s film Harold and Maude. I also really like Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My best memories are from traveling, hitchhiking to Italy, France, Hungary, through Israel, sleeping outside on the beach or in parks, meeting people on the way, going to festivals, eating homemade food. Taking a train to Warsaw. Or a crowded train in Mumbai. Or hiking in Bulgaria.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach you Dutch, some yoga, and more! Would love to learn how to play the harmonica some day..
