About Me

I am a student studying in London, but originally from the Netherlands. I was born in a little city in the Netherlands called Utrecht. I lived in California for a while, and am now in masters in global mental health in London. I love traveling, meeting people, and photographing. I also play ultimate frisbee, and love this community a lot. I appreciate hiking, nature, good views, food, and company.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to meet new people, and discover the local spots to go. I enjoy cities and exploring the countryside, and have loved other home-stay experiences I have had so far. I have met some wonderful people through couch surfing! I believe that in a world that is connected so much through technology it has become increasingly important to interact with people in a genuine and real way. I think couch surfing has allowed me to experience travel in a whole new way, and also in a cost-effective and environmental manner.

Interests

I love to cook, bake, play ultimate frisbee, photograph, and travel. I love to have great conversations about random and intellectual stuff. I read a lot of books in my spare time, sometimes write poetry, and am attempting to learn how to play the guitar (work in progress). Am a sucker for history, picnics, and sunsets.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently read the Goldfinch, which probably has to go up in the top five of best books I have ever read. I also enjoy reading people's life stories in the form of biographies, including Educated (Tara Westover), Becoming (Michelle Obama), and Just Kids (Patti Smith). I really love most music, but have been listening to more non-English music recently.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled around the world from D.C., India, South Africa, and Brazil for four amazing months studying public health in rural and urban areas. I stayed with home stay families that were amazing and hospitable. They exposed me to the local culture, health systems, food, and their daily dinner conversations. I saw some amazing beautiful natural wonders like Table Mountain and Pao de Acucar, but also got the pleasure of knowing wonderful people in every country.
