About Me

Hello everyone,
my name is Julian and I was born and raised in Cologne. Recently I finished my degree in teacher training {subjects English and Biologie}. However, I decided against starting to work as a teacher straight away. Partly because I disagree with our education system and partly because I feel that I need more diverse experience in a global context to being able to teach sustainably. So I booked a flight to Costa Rica and now Im here. Another goal of my stay here is to learn Spanish. So far I speak German, French and basic Spanish. Ive traveled to different countries in Europe and to Ghana *studying, Togo and Benin.

Ive worked in different branches until today. I worked in various different fields and I coordinated a study buddy programme for international students back in Germany. I grew up in a house with cats and dogs and a garden and thus gardening and a passion to work outside grew. I like working with my hand and eventhough Im not a professional I like to do maintenance, constructions with wood and and minor repairs. While studying for 5 years I learned how beautiful it was to start working with your hands and creating new useful things.

While I was studying in Ghana in 2013 I started surfing. Since then I try to surf as often as its possible, which was hardly the case within the last year. Besides surfing I like to do Yoga. The last 1,5 years I did mostly Ashtanga Yoga.

Even though Im tired of university literature plays an important role in my life. This involves discussing about it as well.

I'm excited to meet nice people on my way and share my ideas and get to know others ideas and experiences.

Currently, my interest in permaculture grew largely and I started reading about it. It sounds like a promising concept. I hope to gain more theoretical and practical knowledge about it in order to being able to share it with future generations.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

What I learned in my years of studying and traveling is that it takes time to get to know a place because of the vast amount of groups shaping a space. Especially, in an urban context individuals and groups are responsible for the output which results of a constant interaction between individuals, groups and space. Thus, my idea of arts existing in urban life.
