About Me

Australian guy who is super curious about what the world has to offer. A few years ago I realised there is so much more out there than my comfortable life in the suburbs of Australia, and I have been travelling at every opportunity ever since!

In 2016 I lived in Cologne to take a break from my career. I studied German at the Volkshochschule, worked in a restaurant and also volunteered with children seeking asylum, where I suddenly realised that I absolutely loved working with children! Now I am trying to change from being a lawyer to a teacher (as a Quereinstieg) and want to try doing this in Munich, so that I can go hiking and skiing in the mountains on the weekend :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have done a lot of travelling and used to always think hostels were the best way to meet people and explore a new place. Last year I used Workaway for the first time and started to discover that there is a wonderful community of people who travel in a very different way.

People who really value a good conversation over a glass of wine without checking their phone, who love to learn from others, who love to explore different ways of life, who pay each other back through reciprocation and kindness. So I told myself that next time I travelled I would try this type of travelling! I'm looking forward to finding my own place in Munich so I can pay it forward :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - there is good music in every genre (except country music!). I love listening to jazz and Latin music whilst cooking dinner, classical whilst studying, rock and metal whilst working out. There is always some music on at my house!

Books - I love reading about history, science and philosophy: books that can change the way I see the world.

Movies/TV - I have been watching more German TV lately to work on my language skills. Babylon Berlin, Charité and Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter were all great!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A 10 day silent meditation retreat (Vipassana). Anyone else who has done something like this will understand the mental challenges and physical pain you go through! But I have never felt such peace of mind and contentedness as at the end of those 10 days.

Teach, Learn, Share

New perspectives, new music, new recipes, new languages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good conversation over a glass of wine is my favourite thing in the world. I'll bring the wine and some interesting stories and perspectives.

I also love cooking Asian food, so if you would like to try my Indian dhal, Malaysian laksa or make some sushi or rice paper rolls with me, then just tell me where the local Asian grocery is and I will do the rest!

Ich würde gerne mein Deutsch verbessern, aber ich verstehe es auch, wenn du dein Englisch üben möchtest, daher können wir uns gerne auf beiden Sprachen sprechen - ein perfekter Spracheaustausch :)
