About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Move into a more interesting part of my industry. Meet more interesting people whose company I enjoy. Travel more. I used to think about taking over the world, but it's just way too much effort, really. :P

ABOUT ME

"So tell me about yourself". Somehow, I've never liked this question; I can never think of exactly what to say to describe myself properly in just a few sentences. ;P

Five-foot-nine guy born in Canada and now living in Australia, still with a slight accent even after about 25 years. Generally easy-going (with the exception that I still think and stress too much about some things), and happy to try just about any experience once. Social, and enjoy meeting new people, varying between outgoing and quiet listener a bit, depending. Love travelling!

For more information, read the rest of my profile (how was that?). ;P

PHILOSOPHY

Okay, I'm the first to admit that I think too much sometimes. Here's some of it:

Don't hurt others, be honest (but be tactful, too, if it's about that sort of thing). Admit to your mistakes. Don't argue with people (in a shouting, going nowhere kind of way), it's pointless. At the same time, don't let other people walk all over you.

Be self-aware. Be willing to change (it can be a very good thing). Be open to new ideas. Realise that everyone has a different viewpoint, and don't go around thinking that your view on something is the "right" one.

As cliche as it sounds, life really is a journey (I learnt this one a bit later than I'dve liked, in hindsight). Having goals is fine, but make sure to appreciate everything along the way to them!

Do I always manage to live up to all of this? No, but I try to do my best. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can't offer a couch at the moment, but I'd like to help out fellow travellers by offering to meet them in my city and show them around a bit, or even just tell them about some of the sights etc., if that's all they want. I know how great it can be to be able to meet up with someone in a city you're new to, and hence want to help other people in the same way.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have had a really good time meeting a lot of couch surfers at events and showing people around Melbourne.

Interests

Too many, I sometimes think! Some are: Adventure sports, reading, travelling (duh), tinkering, dancing, martial arts, cooking, some arts (going to see exhibitions, performances etc.), the human mind, various bits of science, and fire twirling.

Basically, I'm willing to try pretty much anything at least once, and I enjoy trying new things. Next major thing on the list? Hang-gliding, I'm hoping. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music? Used to listen to mostly 80s pop, some 90s and modern music, classical music, and odd other bits and pieces. I really don't listen to the radio much these days: it's just the same 'ol, same 'ol, usually with a shorter attention span required. ;P I'm trying to branch out and listen to some other stuff like jazz, swing, folk, in whatever style they come int

Movies? Bit of a range of tastes there. Sci. Fi., fantasy, action and horror movies are good, but so are comedy ones, and whatever category you want to put movies like "About a Boy", "Love Actually" and "Amelie" into. I don't watch a lot of Anime, but Spirited Away was a great movie. I've started watching more in the "foreign" and "alternate" categories, too: e.g. The Spanish Apartment, Suso's Tower, and Sabah (all good movies!).

Books? Used to read fantasy by the bucketload, and some horror and comedy. Nowadays I've gone off fantasy and horror and am more into human psych things, a bit of science, a book or two about religion, and I'd like to read some detective stories, history, biographies, and other books in those kinds of areas when (if?) I get some time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Skydiving. It's one of two things that I could only find the words "wow", "amazing", and "fantasic" to describe. (The other thing I can't find words for is scuba diving; I can't think of how to describe what it's like.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll have to think about this one...
