About Me

I'm a Brazilian girl whose life has always been moved by my two true passions: music and traveling!
Music is the one thing that has always given meaning and purpose to my life in every possible way - by listening to music, watching concerts, and above all, by working with amazingly talented artists, organizing shows and festivals, being involved in the production and release of great albums, contributing to the artists' growth and witnessing the emotion they convey to the fans - that is the most amazing feeling I can ever have!
Traveling is not only what makes me feel truly alive - it has also been a salvation to me when I was younger and feeling trapped with no perspective, until I moved to Germany by myself and a whole new world was revealed to me. Since then, I have been passionate about visiting new places, learning about new cultures, meeting people from all over the world, going to concerts of my favorite bands, and most importantly, having this incredible feeling of freedom, peace and excitement with the greatness and beauty of the world and the wonderful people I always have the privilege to meet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been on Couchsurfing since 2009 when I discovered this incredible platform and connected with the most friendly people. During my past trips I have met so many nice and thoughtful people who quickly became friends and helped me get the most out of every place I visited. So the reason I'm on Couchsurfing is because I believe life can connect people who can make a difference in each other's life, and here we have the opportunity to make connections across the whole world and see the world through so many different perspectives that our minds expand and our values can become so much more meaningful - at least that is the impact it has on me. :)

Interests

Favorite Type of Music: undoubtedly Folk Music will always be my favorite type of music, which is why I chose to work exclusively with it. Another passion of mine is Post Rock with all its intensity and deep emotional effect on me, and also Alternative/ Rock, especially from the 90's. But my favorite bands are very diverse from one another: The Smashing Pumpkins, DeVotchKa, The Cure, Sigur Rós, Nine Inch Nails, Damien Rice, Mogwai, Arcade Fire, etc. So to me it's not so much a matter of what music genre I like, but what bands I like. =)

Favorite Movie Directors: the genius Darren Aronofsky is, to me, the most brilliant writer and movie director ever, and he will always be my favorite. I am also a fan of Lars Von Trier, Jaco Van Dormael, Roy Andersson, Denis Villeneuve and others. Also a fan of Charlie Brooker for creating the fantastic series Black Mirror.

Writing is another one of my passions, and in 2016 I finally started developing my life-long writings into professional writing - I wrote lyrics for an entire album of a folk artist which will be released in 2018, and I never felt so accomplished in my life as I did with this work. I'm also working on my first book right now, and hope to get the most inspiration for it in my upcoming trips.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite Music: In Folk Music, my favorite artists are: [Brazilian] Benjamin Existe, Arthur Matos [International] Nick Drake, The Decemberists, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard (The Frames), Iron and Wine, Ben Harper, Scott Matthews, Tim Buckley, Leonard Cohen and many more. DeVotchKa doesn't quite qualify as Folk, but they're in my top 3 favorite bands in the world. In Post Rock, I love Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Rós, Eluvium, Ólafur Arnalds and many others. And my favorite bands in Alternative/ Rock are Smashing Pumpkins (my favorite of all), The Cure, Black Sabbath, Nine Inch Nails, System Of A Down, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and more. Aside from all this, I am also fascinated by the work of Clint Mansell, which leads to my favorite movies:

In cinema, I am truly fanatic about existential movies, the ones that explore the meaning of life, the human mind, the mysteries of the universe and the destructive reality created by mankind. This is why I love every single one of Darren Aronofsky's movies: 'The Fountain' being my #1 favorite movie ever, followed by 'Requiem For A Dream', 'Pi' and 'Noah' (all written by Darren), and also 'The Wrestler' and 'Black Swan'. I am also a fan of Lars Von Trier with 'Melancholia' as my favorite, Jaco Van Dormael with my favorites 'Mr. Nobody' and 'The Brand New Testament', Roy Andersson with his brilliant Living Trilogy about existence, and many others.

As for books, I have too many favorites so it's hard name all, but the ones that really changed my life are: 'Rebellious Spirits' by Kahlil Gibran, 'Siddhartha' by Hermann Hesse and 'Man's Search for Meaning' by Viktor Frankl.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I've done so far was to create a project called Folk Music Brazil, which had and reached the goal of developing a folk music scene in Brazil, which didn't exist before, and also discovering and revealing talented Brazilian folk artists. The project has been growing immensely since its creation in 2012, with the organization of big Folk Festivals and Shows, the production and release of the greatest independent folk albums as well as the first Brazilian Folk Compilation, the management of emerging talents and the propagation of this new folk scene across the country through connections, partnerships and collaborators. All of these efforts have led to a large connection between folk fans and, most importantly, between many artists, which allowed them to collaborate, organize their own shows together and create many other initiatives for the folk scene to grow.
