À propos de moi

Once, I got lost on Mt. Keumgang in NK and had a pleasant conversation with a soldier until the fog passed, but I will lose my shit if I have to talk about my art work in front of an audience. I definitely love to hear your stories. I don't know a thing about pop culture, and I laugh at myself a lot.

I'd always rather be an assistant and learn something interesting than lead a team, although I work at a startup currently and lead a team , lol. In past lives I was an artist assistant, teacher, social worker, researcher, violinist, anger management counselor, commercial photographer and a whole lot of things I can't remember.

Couchsurfing changed my life and couchsurfers are my tribe. I'm a returnee to Western culture after a long time away and herd well with life-long aliens (it gets easier if you accept your place will always be to not belong) :P But seriously, I moved to Berlin 5 years ago after living in Korea for 11 years.

I love to ride bikes, record sounds, explore, not be judged, meditate, learn, listen, be silent, honor trust, help without expectation, laugh, judge (a little), talk over people when I get excited, try a new thing I'm sure I'll suck at, suck at it, tell you you suck, pretend it never happened....

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

The principles I learned here defined my twenties. I hosted someone in 2005 and never looked back. I was the first ambassador of Daegu and organized our early meetups. It was an exciting time. and now even though Couchsurfing has moved onto phones and a new era, I still humbly am learning from that path that started here. Here are some of the values I trust that have come from living the CS way:

• Freely give what has been given to you.
• Helping others, no matter how little the gesture, frees ourselves even during times of isolation.
• The more we have a chance to share our experiences and lives with strangers, the more we can trust our intuition and meet more amazing people so that we can have a greater impact in our community.

But just before I became a couchsurfer, I asked a question on an online forum: "What should I bring from the US when I move to Korea?" I received a lot of suggestions: deodorant, small souvenirs, candy bars only available in the US. Plug adapters, power convertors. Large shoes if you have large feet (I don't). Bed sheets, American-sized full body wrappable towels. Then someone said, "Bring nothing and redefine your needs."

This simple suggestion has been an entire journey for me. Of course, we should plan on being good hosts, always being kind and curteous. Maybe prepare the right small gifts from our homeland as surfers. We should bring the right things so that we can be responsible for ourselves. What I really want to learn though is how to be comfortable as a human without all the things that I think define me. It is a lifelong lesson I am far from, but I hope that I will always need less than I need now, and be able to give more back.

Couchsurfing people have consistently surprised me in amazing ways. I hope to find you in the spirit of couchsurfing!

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

So many through CS. Recently I was on a car-sharing ride to Lithuania and the driver mentioned, "You lived in Korea? My best friend goes there often". I had to look through my old photos for a while and....bam...it turns out I had hosted his friend in my flat 10 years ago in Daegu. The next day we were hanging out on the river together.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Korean, Korean cooking, film photography (I use my space as a darkroom, although it isn't quite a studio). I don't know, I've been around a long time and lived around, so ask me anything :P I love to learn and share.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

I am no longer in my CS party anywhere anytime prime, but I am up for sharing my space, cooking (Korean mostly), experiences and time with you. I'd say the best thing I can share is an open ear.
