About Me

Born in the Philippines, I moved to the UK when I was eight and have lived there since.

I studied Maths, Physics and Fine Art in High school and up until late have worked as a user interface designer and developer at a small software company in the UK. I am currently on a gap year travelling the world.

I am quite enthusiastic about new experiences, openminded and intellectually curious.

I am also deeply respectful of others' space and needs and am sensitive to the cultural disparity that often accompanies travelling. I would really appreciate it if you are able to alert me to any customs and traditions that I should be aware of, so that I don't unwittingly offend someone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it is a brilliant idea. Enabling people to see the city from the eyes of someone who lives there makes so much sense to me. In addition to this, connecting people who share similar interests but vary in experiences is something that I place huge value on.

My current goal on my gap year is to accumulate as many experiences and learn from as many people as I can over the next few months. To me there seems to be no better way to do it then to couchsurf.

Interests

Meeting People, Other's Experiences, Surfing, Kitesurfing, Parkour, Software Development, Maths, Physics, Artificial Intelligence, Art, Guitar, Violin, Design, Typography, Food, Coffee, Tea, Reddit and Exploring.

In the same way one could say that Physicists are the detectives of the universe, I feel that everyone is a detective of the human condition.

I enjoy conversations with others that encourage us to question our fundamentals. I am curious as to what universal phenomenon enables logic to exist and what relationship it has to emotion. I believe in Einsteins famous saying "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough" and as a result, strive to distill ideas and experiences into their simplest form in order to understand them more profoundly. And then use these insights as lego blocks of logic to build castles together.

I am fascinated by the idea of consciousness and its origins and often ponder on Turing's imitation game - wether computers will be eventually be able to think by themselves.

I am very interested by the idea of living with less and doing away with small decisions. I believe that our possessions and surroundings have a strong effect on the way we think. I am experimenting with this idea through my travels by bringing a reasonably small bag with me.

All that being said, the one thing that seems pretty certain is that we have a finite amount of time on earth, so ultimately I strive to push myself to live up to my highest potential. And I mean, why the hell not?

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Sophies World, Wolf Totem, The Prophet, Steve Jobs (Walter Isaacson)

Movies: Into the Wild, Inception, The Matrix, Amelie, Pulp Fiction

Music: Music with a strong sense of origin that tells a story - From old school hip hop (Tribe, Rakim, B.I.G) and Jazz to Yo Yo Ma. My music taste is somewhat eclectic and jumps around quite often.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Landed a front loop while windsurfing in Brighton.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach the odd card trick, some web development (basics of building a website), basics of how machine learning/AI works, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Violin and Guitar, Tagalog, Windsurfing/Sailing and some of the ideas behind the perfect espresso shot.

Would love to learn about free diving, travelling to remote areas, buddhism, learning new languages, spirituality, lucid dreaming, polyphasic sleep, wing suit diving, survival skills, literature, food, craftsmanship in any discipline (pottery, smithing) and philosophy.

In all honesty, I am curious about anything that someone else is passionate about.

I am also more then happy to help with whatever needs to be done such as cooking and cleaning.
