About Me
Sziasztok, hi, hallo, hej!
My name is Júlia, but you can call me Julie or Julia, if you want. My friends use the nickname Julcsi, but it's not very easy to pronounce for a non-Hungarian. Although it's not that difficult, you can learn it, if you want, I'll appreciate it. 😊
I am a Hungarian student from a beautiful town called Szeged, but I've recently moved to the capital, Budapest with my boyfriend. We're renting a small, but cozy apartment. As soon as we fully move in and this coronavirus-crisis goes away, I hope we can welcome you in our house.
In 2015 I studied to be a music teacher for one semester, but I quit, because I realized, I love music, but I don't want to teach it. After that I had a rejection from another university, so for a year I had smaller and shorter jobs and I did a lot of babysitting.
I started university again in September 2017. Now I'm a third-year student in Scandinavian Studies, which contains: linguistics, literature, culture, history and of course one Scandinavian language, which is Swedish for me. I really love it! I'm planning to graduate in January next year.
My dream is to be a musical actress, or singer-actress one day. I took classical singing lessons for about three and a half years. I also play the flute, the guitar and some piano.
Besides music, I love learning languages, especially German, English and Swedish. I also like psychology and swimming.
I've been a scout for a long time, but I am not active at the the moment.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've heard about couchsurfing when I was younger, but my boyfriend told me about it and showed me this website so I've decided to give it a try.
I've always liked the idea of travelling, but I've rarely had the guts to do it, although I spent three weeks in Sweden last summer all by myself which was amazing. Also my boyfriend inspires and encourages me to see our fascinating world.
Thanks to CS in 2016 he and I got to spend a few days in Stockholm which was a wounderful first experience for us.

Music 🎵: I'm a die-hard fan of musicals: Elisabeth, Mozart, Chess, Rebecca, The Phantom of the Opera, Rent, Jekyll and Hyde, Wicked, La La Land. I also like rock, pop, country and jazz. Avril Lavigne is my favourite singer, but I'd prefer listening to her older songs.
Series 🎬: Friends (true fan!), The Big Bang Theory, How I met your mother, The Crown, Anne with an E, The Good Place, Sherlock, Family Guy, Dead to Me
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- A few years back I created and organized a big strategy game for scout kids in my hometown. Of course, I didn't do it all by myself, but it was fun and quite amazing watching about a hundred kids playing in a big square.
- Last summer for a summer-course I travelled all by myself and spent three weeks in North-Sweden in a small town called Kalix which is 3000 km far from my hometown. I was the only Hungarian there and I got by only with my English and Swedish without any problem. For me it was a huge confidence-boost, because I've never travelled alone this far and was never away for this long.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'll appreciate if you teach me something (new) in your language, cook some special dish of your nation, show me/talk about your culture or just give me some tips what to visit in your country/city/region while I'm there.
If you are experienced in playing music, I would be glad, if you could teach me how to play a new instrument, or give me piano/guitar lessons. I am also open to make some music together. :)
What I Can Share with Hosts
Just in general I can show you something from my culture, for example I can cook a delicious dish or play some Hungarian music, talk about our history etc.
If you are interested in music, and you have or can borrow a classical/acoustic guitar (I can't bring mine) I can teach you the basics. I can also teach you, how to sing in a classical way.
But if you're more like a listener, I can sing or play something for you. :)
If you are interested in languages, I can teach you some Hungarian, maybe German or Swedish. (No, not just dirty things :P).
