Overview
About Me
We are open minded, adventurous people who love to learn about new cultures and to see as much of this wonderful world as we can. We always enjoy good food and good beer and we're always looking to see amazing sights and make new friends.
If you want to learn a bit more about our travels, you can check out Julie's blog at www.wanderingjule.wordpress.com.
Please read the "my home" section of the profile for info on when we can/can't host.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
One of my favorite parts about traveling is meeting new people, having conversations about what they love and what's important to them, and trying new foods in different places. People never cease to amaze me!
We have recently traveled around the US for several months on the cheap and used couchsurfing quite a bit! Now that we are settled back down with a house to share, we definitely want to try the other end of couchsurfing and give back by hosting others. Not looking for this to be one-sided! :)

Music, Movies, and Books
I love folk-Americana music, and in particular bands like Dawes, Brandi Carlile, the Avett Brothers, Head and the Heart, First Aid Kit and Lord Huron. I'm very open to new bands!
I love all books unless proven otherwise, but some of my very favorite authors include Barbara Kingsolver, Seth Kantner, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Louise Erdich. I mostly love historical/ realistic fiction or autobiographies.
We both love most movies, from silly stuff to intense war movies, and most sci-fi/ fantasy we come across.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I (Julie) volunteered in rural Alaska for a year after college working with Yup'ik Alaska Native elders and learning about their vibrant and distinct culture. It allowed me to eat interesting new foods, try out new activities like sled dog racing and ice fishing, and I even got to see the Northern Lights a few times!
Jake spent some time volunteering at an animal sanctuary in Belize on Caye Caulker, and when he was not helping out at the sanctuary, he was ocean kayaking, eating fresh conch right from the ocean, and befriending locals.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you about places I've been around the world and I'd love to learn about your culture, where you've been, what makes you you. Oh, and your favorite food.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I've picked up some cool dishes I like to cook. Also, musical suggestions.
