About Me

CURRENT MISSION

get out in the world and do new things

ABOUT ME

I'm a science nerd who just finished my PhD, and am taking advantage of having nothing to do immediately afterward by traveling around the world. I love to read and cook and hike, and can find things to enjoy about city life and the wilderness. I totally have the travel bug and get itchy feet if I'm in the USA for more than a year at a time, so I'm really looking forward to spending the next four months traveling before I have to settle down again. I can't wait to meet awesome new people and discover new parts of the world!

Interests

I love learning about things that are different from what I am used to - other ways to cook, dress, design buildings, show creativity, experience the world. That's the best part about traveling!
I am a scientist, but when not in lab I am playing soccer and rugby, reading, cooking, going on walks or hiking with friends, or happily joining in with some activity that someone came up with.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read, but stick mostly with fiction, and mostly sci-fi and fantasy at that. I read a decent amount of action/adventure, romance, and a little mystery, and am always looking for something new to read.
I don't pay a whole lot of attention to music, but I like most of it except for hardcore heavy metal and rap. I definitely enjoy pop and country - of course the American versions; I haven't had a lot of exposure to music from other places.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So many things out there are amazing, it's hard to pick any in particular.
Smoky Mountain National Park was beautiful this fall, when I surprised a turkey into flying away in the misty morning fog. I'd never seen a wild turkey so close, and I'd never seen one fly!
New York City is chaotic but beautiful at Christmas time, when everyone is out shopping and everything is decorated and lights are everywhere.
Walking along the cliffs in Tasmania with my friends was like we were the only people in the world, discovering everything for the first time, from the rocky sort-of-path to the secluded cove with a perfect bench made by some driftwood.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, Viet Nam, Zambia

Countries I’ve Lived In
