About Me

Hi there, this is Julie, currently residing in Europe, and love to see the world.

Interests

Music, nature.

Well, I'd say music was my old time favorite.
I used to play piano, flute, and french horn. I've been a french horn player for about 10 yrs, always in ensembles. I really enjoy being in a group, and waiting for the right moment to give a perfect sound. I enjoy the practicing, and the camaraderie with all the other players, but one day I was tired. But I still have a keen sense about music, and always get soothed when I hear something that touches me.

The other thing is I really like mountains. Once a while I go hiking. I also did camping and enjoyed doing in when I was in a school hiking club, but I left the club, I hardly do so myself.

Another big interest is to travel (well, I guess this is cliche for most ppl on CS) and take pictures. I like getting up early, after brushing your teeth and washing your face, get ready with your maps and guidebooks, and set out for a perfect day of exploration. I spend time taking pictures, although they're not necessarily superb in the eyes of others, but what counts is in the process of creating something, or catching something. That's what counts to me.

Oh, I forgot one thing. I'm interested in the idea of ecological village, and their way of living. After watching a serial reports of CSA (community-supported agriculture) or healthy foods on NYtimes, I'm really into the idea of foraging. Everytime I see something like pissenlit on the ground, I wonder if there're lots of things to pick around my neighborhood.
But this is not the first time that I get in contact with all this. More in the books that I like.

Music, Movies, and Books

Well, now you know that I'm a little bit in touch with classical music.
Of course, some Chinese pop singers or Taiwanese aboriginal music (pls try listening to it, you won't regret).

Somtimes I hear some interesting electric music, but when I search intentionally, I can't find any, it's weird. But as many ppl are fascinated by electric music, I guess somewhere there'll be one that catches my attention.
-----
I watch mostly drama, or comedy drama. No horrifying movies and sci-fis.
Old fashioned Meg Ryan movies(I watched the three movies that she made with Tom Hanks, directed by the same director), or that of Julia Robert's.
-----
1. Tuesdays with Morries, by Mitch Album: a book that I always take out when I feel confused about relationships. I trained myself by repeating the ideas in it and to differentiate what's important in life. Now I pick it up less, but I know part of me had grown out of it.

2. The little girl at the window, by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi . This is my first book about unconventional school. I was so touched by the ideas proposed in this book, I then continued reading things about Summerhill School and this type of schools in Taiwan. I'd love to visit Summerhill School when I get the chance to go to England.

3. The Good Life, by Helen and Scott Nearing. This is the book for me that enligtened and strengthened the idea that we can control our lives without being slaves of money. Well, I've never lived like that, and can't be sure if we can be free of the idea of money, but I'd love to try, one day, to realize 4 hrs of work, 4 hrs dedicated to the society, and 4 hrs for interests.
