About Me

CURRENT MISSION

New experiences, learning, creating, sharing

ABOUT ME

Favorite things in life: riding the bus, exploring industrial, abandoned buildings, going to museums and art galleries, spending time with my family / friends. This September, I quit my job, got rid of most of my stuff, shaved my head, and hit the road. Been traveling solo via Greyhound, rideshare and freight train ever since and loving it! Back in LA, I'm involvled at the punk cathedral / music venue / art co-op / community space, Project Infest (www.myspace.com/projectinfest) and art collective and creative space, Bacchus (http://www.facebook.com/iamthebacchus?ref=ts).

PHILOSOPHY

seeking to get rid of the ego, greed and foolishness through generosity, mindfulness and listening / observing with an open mind. relaying what I find to others and connecting good people to create a healthy, inspiring community

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In traveling off-the-cuff like this, I am indebted to many people that have helped me along the way--from offering me a place to stay, suggesting rad places and events to see, connecting me with other people, or simply sharing a nice conversation or breakfast. In turn, I hope to give them a piece of my excitement for this adventure called life, discuss critical issues such as the production of goods vs. relying on money, fresh water sources, community-building, all forms of expression, etc. etc. and just have a good time. I also wish to offer my own place as a spot for travelers to stay once I get my own living situation set-up back in Los Angeles. And at the very least, start being a valuable resource and companion for friends and friends of friends traveling to the area. (Whereas before I would think myself too busy with work to be open to such fun, spontaneous and enlightening journeys that occur with people from outside the city!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, I've been surfing a LOT of couches on this cross-country road trip, but none directly through couchsurfing.com. I've also hopped around Los Angeles quite a bit when I didn't have a steady place to stay... so I'm very familiar with the practice (and etiquette!). Not to boast, but to reassure-- I have had numerous people say I've been the most polite, pleasant guest they've ever hosted and many of them don't want me to leave! ...No guarantees, but I have been known to cook full meals (love grilling! especially ribs and veggies), at least pitching in for groceries and helping out in the kitchen, I do all my dishes and then some, and I'm very tidy and considerate of peoples' space in their home (not letting my stuff explode all over the place...plus, I want to keep track of it).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

rode a freight train from Oakland to Eugene then tripped on mushrooms there and drove across country with a woman I met on craigslist. Got a private tour of Ford's first model-T factory in Detroit from the manager of the building after I was told by the security guard it was impossible, met a boy in St. Louis and danced in the street...every day seeing people in their regular lives is amazing. Seeing myself from their perspective is also very rewarding.
