Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

After 2 years in Asia, mostly in Nepal’s high mountains, I’m on a new adventure:
I climb 100 peaks o Pakistan www.peaks-to-pakistan.com

ABOUT ME

Instead of writing a long text, I decided to upload some pictures that should give a good idea of what I really like doing and what I am interested in :)
A lot more and current updates on Instagram, visible also to non-Insta people: @juliantothewild (https://www.instagram.com/juliantothewild/ )

PHILOSOPHY

"Auf den Gipfeln wohnt der größte Optimismus: Der Glaube an sich selber."

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think couchsurfing should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Price. It connects individuals from across the globe and fosters intercultural understanding and friendships.
I lived almost 8 month in the houses of couchsurfers in Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Panamá. I made so many amazing experiences and became good friends with some of the Couchsurfers. Whenever I couchsurfed at a place I have the feeling that I got a much deeper understanding and most of the times also a better experience than staying elsewhere. For me, traveling always includes couchsurfing.

Trying to host as many people as possible to give back what I experienced, but I’m mostly traveling myself 😅

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Only the best! Since now the hosts have been very nice and I spent awesome times together. They allways showed the best parts of their city and I enjoy the contact with local people - so I am very happy that Couchsurfing makes those meetings possible!

Intereses

* Outdoor sports: Hiking, mountaineering, climbing, cycling, kayaking, paragliding
* Music: I play the piano since I am 7 years old. Favourite composers: Giovanni Alevi, Debussy, Beethoven, Mozart, Ludovico Einaudi. I like going on festivals and dancing until the sun comes up again. I like music that combines various styles or recombines and interprets songs in new ways.
* People: I like to understand why people do what they do. I am interested in your motivations to (not) do certain things. I am interested how people achieve “flow” moments of perfect focus and well-being.
* Business: I like to start new things. My team and I grew FLIO into the most used airport app in the world. I founded a software company with a friend from uni early in 2020.
* Ecology: Renewable Energies (worked in renewables for some years; helped building the first wind-solar-hybrid park in Europe), cultivated meat (wrote my master thesis with Mosa Meat, the “inventors” of cultivated beef)
* Sleep Research: For many years I considered sleep to be the “wasted” life time. After reading a lot of books and papers about sleep, I am amazed of what amazing processes happen when we are unconscious (:

Música, películas y libros

Rock, Metal, Ska, Indie, Folk, Reggae, Pop, Electro, Rap, Jazz, Funk, classical music, any music played on the piano. Used to play all kinds of music in different bands.

I read a book every other week.

I don’t watch TV/netflix as it feels to me like wasting time.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I think I have an more than average exciting life, but one thing I will never forget is the attempt to climb Mount Manaslu (8,163m) in Nepal. The conditions were horrible and I didn’t even get to do a summit attempt, but by climbing, I managed to raise >16,000€ for school children in Nepal. Visiting the school and village after the climb was very special.
