About Me

I'm a pretty all-around guy that has a Communications degree. Conventional wisdom would tell you that I am probably working in a production house. However, I decided to take a 180-degree turn by working for a tech company and a private research institution that focuses on education and urban policy instead.

In my spare time, you can either see me play my guitar or lifting at the gym. I rarely go out to party because my alcohol tolerance isn't the best (Asian genetics be damned) but when you do see me drink, I can assure you that I'm already having a philosophical discussion on mundane matters.

My weekends are for gaming, managing our family-owned art business and reading up on public policy.

I am a busy guy with all of these things that I listed so whenever I do get the chance to travel outside of the Philippines, I want to soak in as much information as I can.

Having lived in a tropical country for so long, my travel preferences typically lean towards countries that have vast landscapes or experience colder weather (or both!).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe that listening to people's experiences is a valuable way of feeling like you've "travelled" to where they came from. Because I don't have a lot of time for travel, these experiences are much more valuable to me because I can try to imagine that I've travelled vicariously through them.

Music, Movies, and Books

General music tastes are indie (Pinegrove, Alt-J, Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, The Temper Trap, Of Monsters and Men, LANY, Hozier, HONNE), hip-hop/R&B (Chance the Rapper, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Drake, Post Malone, Daniel Caesar, Khalid, Frank Ocean), rock/blues (Kings of Leon, Incubus, John Mayer, Foo Fighters, RHCP, The Killers, Paramore), acoustic/folk (Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, George Ezra, Vance Joy) and so much more.

Movies are a bit wonky as I love music-themed movies such as Once (2006), Whiplash (2014) and La La Land (2016). I also like Happy Madison films as my typical stress-relief go-to.

I'm not a fan of books as much as I am of podcasts, though. I'm more of an auditory learner so I like listening to Freakonomics and Stuff You Should Know.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Terrific tasting (but borderline unhealthy) snacks from my native home! Not to mention, I can offer historical, cultural, and political insight on subject matters as a Filipino-Japanese, Filipino, or Japanese.

If you also want to know more about the interests I've listed, I'd gladly take my time to help you through whatever you need.
