ABOUT ME

...well, what to say? ;)
In general, I am fairly reserved and narrow-minded person*, at the moment I live in Moscow, before that I spent some 5 years in NYC, and before that I lived in Novosibirsk Scietific Center (aka Akademgorodok)

In Moscow I found a lot of friends at the Maria's Children Art Studio:

More detailed info about me can be found at
http://profiles.takingitglobal.org/justboris

You may find me on fb: https://www.facebook.com/boris.baranov - please do not hesitate to contact me via facebook, as I am rarely checking CS website now. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR HOST PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA FACEBOOK FIRST (I do not like recent changes, I paid one month fee to save my information yet I am not sure if I am going to pay it again - so. please use facebook or other social media & networks to find me)

Important note: I do host people via Hospitality Club and BeWelcome as well.

* That is reffered to commonly overused "open minded & easy going" line ;-p

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to be a member of "Worldwide Hitch-hiking Database " (RIP), and then Hospitality Club (http://hospitalityclub.org) for quite a long time, and I used them both ways: as a traveller, and as a host as well. When at some point my new friend told me that CouchSurfing has more convinient interface (no offense meant to any side:), I decided to use it as well. Half of year after I joined activities of Moscow Group: starting from CS Banya session(s) trough NY Dacha to organizing CS Cottage Party...
Then, right after that my close friend, Dima Sivenkov (DIMS) nominated me as CS Ambassodor of the City of Moscow and I had been CS Moscow Ambassador for about 7+ years till the moment when CS Inc became a for-profit corporation and Massimo Bennardo single-handedly decided that he does not appreciate me enough to be an ambassador of this for-profit corp.
I still do host/couchsurf & organize events etc/

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

at first - Europe, US, Russia as a host/traveller;
then joined Moscow Group activities, from participating to CS Banya to organizing Moscow events

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: more on arthouse side, but can enjoy any kind of movie - depending on the mood :) Big fun of Cohen brothers, Jim Jarmush, Emir Custurica...
Music: as well as for movies - almost anything depending on the mood/moment... yet in general I do prefer jazz: Miles Davis/Herbie Hanckock/John Coltrain...
I do enjoy live music, especially played by my friends. If you will be in Moscow try to check Vofka Kozhekin performances or festivals (he is either playing or busy - organizing yet another fest:)
Here is his blog (in Russian only, sorry):
http://kozhekin.livejournal.com

Books: well... what did I read last time?
I think that was yet another Romain Gary book, which I enjoyed .. this time that was Les enchanteurs. I can recommend any of his books, but the absolute must read are Les racines du ciel (Корни неба) & / La vie devant soi (Вся жизнь впереди). Gary got his two Prix Goncourt (Goncourt Prizes - the most prestigeous French awards in literature) for these books.
here Gary's website: http://www.romaingary.org/
Also, I have couple of books by Somerset Maugham on my bed-table ...
Btw, you may find almost any book in Russian at Moshkov's library - http://lib.ru - the oldest and the best Russian internet library ever.
I recently read Stephen Fry Hippopotamus, and really enjoyed it (Chesterthon and Maugham combined:)
