About Me

I'm a just your average american who can still find something to complain about like this insatiable condition I bear that drives me towards new places. It's hard to pinpoint where my thirst for travel began to plague my mind. Was I born with it or was it learned behavior? Well, who knows for sure, but experience and circumstance surely added tinder to the flame . Take my parents, those fuckers! First of all, they bring me into this world without asking, then they drag me to places I never wanted to go to in the first place - the nerve! You see, my father was a soldier with patriarchal dreams, and my mother was a wanderlust who chased new places, experiences, and women. I don't think much else needs to be said to realize that they were incompatible and ripe with dysfunction. But, it's not the divorce that has me tiffed, it's my condition they perpetuated. When my folks separated, I found myself as the poor recipient of a guardian on the west coast of the United States, and another on the east coast. I spent much of my time oscillating between California sunshine and sweet deep fried southern ignorance. The contrast of culture within my own country intrigued me, and thus has me looking for more - thanks Ma and Pa. Fast forward through the multitudes of K-12 schools, odd jobs and strange people, and we find our hero (me of course) within the sandy halls of higher education at the University of California, Santa Barbara. It's a great institution and often hovers around the top of academic rankings - whether it be in research, achievement, or partying. But, I'll be honest, I went for the coastline, the beer and textbooks were only a bonus. The local college community attracts a lot of foreigners, who I would offer my couch to frequently. Hearing their stories from places abroad only tempted my thirst for travel. Now, after graduating, I can finally gain control of my condition, but it would be out of character. This slower pace of life brings an uncomfortable stillness coupled with a constant urge for change. I think it's time for another relapse from normalcy. I want to trade in this constant unrest for continued change, and find time to thank those who made me this way. What else can I say? I love, I laugh, and, if you cut me, I'll bleed. I'm about as human as you probably are.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I recently graduated with a degree in philosophy and have found myself pitting the merits of a job and exploration against one another. I know I have a desire to see the world, or as much of it as I can, and think waiting any longer is only making my dreams depart further from reality.

Interests

Beauty! I try to facilitate my capacities of appreciation of the beauty around us. I find appreciation in the masterpieces of great artist on museum walls, or in a finger-painting magnetized to a fridge. Or in the complexity of mathematical theorems. Or in the pursuit of philosophical knowledge. Or in selflessness of charity. Or in the perceived unity from the chaos of nature. Or the arrangement of written and spoken language. I hope to do something beautiful one day myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

My music taste is pretty eclectic. I'm currently a big fan of 'Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue from Ignorance'. I really love 'The Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy' - I'd travel the stars, if I could.
