Music, Movies, and Books

Music is a huge passion of mine; have done many road trips in the US for the soul purpose of seeing life-changing bands. A couple I am proud to say I travelled long ways to see were; -Slowdive, Survive, The Black Angels and The Brian Jonestown Massacre in Austin, Texas. -Broken Social Scene and The Jesus and Mary Chain in Portland, Oregon. -My Bloody Valentine in Minneapolis, Minnesota. -Mogwai in Denver, Colorado. -The Psychedelic Furs in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Some of the bands I saw in my hometown of Salt Lake City include; Beach House, Jay Som, Japanese Breakfast, The Flaming Lips, Broken Social Scene (again), The War on Drugs, Tycho, The xx, Lvl Up, Coldplay, The Dig as well as Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers.

Since I’ve been backpacking through Europe I have seen quite a few bands as well, including; John Maus in Berlin, Germany. Still Corners and Daddy Issues in Glasgow, Scotland. And am gonna see Slowdive (again) in Brighton, England on the 12th of December!

Some bucket list bands include; M83, Mazzy Star, Bon Iver, Spiritualized, Wolf Alice, Alvvays, The Raveonettes, Boards of Canada, Bruce Springsteen and New Order to name a handful.

Other ones that I realistically know that I won’t ever be able to see live but on paper would have absolutely loved to, include; Cocteau Twins, The Postal Service, Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doors, Joy Division, The Cranberries and Sonic Youth. Now - talking about film - which is arguably even a bigger passion, haha.

I have been to the Sundance film festival and also went to the Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. But yeah, strictly speaking about just pure favorites - I’d say this is my list; Lost in Translation, Blade Runner, Taxi Driver, The Florida Project, Under the Skin, Mysterious Skin, Call Me By Your Name, American Honey, In the Mood for Love, Her, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Band of Robbers, Psycho, The Shining, The Mirror and so many more, haha. Book-wise; my favorite is Arthur C Clarke’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. Have actually quite a long story about how that book shifted my entire perspective on life. But this is already long enough, so will just keep that for us to discuss in person! :-D
