About Me

My girlfriend Vanessa (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/vanessahuegel) and I just moved to Vancouver, Canada where I will be starting my master's of physiotherapy at UBC. We are a pair of fun-loving, outgoing, active, outdoorsy, and adventurous people who love to meet new people, learn foreign cultures, explore new landscapes, climb rocks, conquer mountains, eat yum food and enjoy the local beer/wine/spirits. We've recently done a 1 year working holiday in Australia, lived the dream in Kelowna, British Columbia for 5 years, and previously in Blenheim, New Zealand where we met. We really love to be outdoors and enjoy exploring our surroundings, whether it be bouldering, hiking, going to the beach, mountain biking, camping, snowboarding, or just going on an adventure.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Love the Couchsurfing idea! My Couchsurfing experiences so far have only been extremely positive and amazing! Good people helping good people out and getting to make new friends across the world and experience new cultures you may never have had the chance to.

I started by surfing in Innsbruck, Austria for 4 epic nights over new years 2013 and had an amazing time with some really awesome people which inspired me to continue couchsurfing. I've also surfed across Canada during my move to BC, for a week in Mexico, in Iceland, Hawaii, and a few other place.

Interests

In the past few years I started travelling and now find it very difficult to stop! I love meeting new people and experiencing new cultures and lifestyles. I started by doing New Zealand and also did a Eurotrip in December 2012. Most recently across Canada and around BC. Now that I'm not travelling as much I enjoy living vicariously through others travels. It'll have to do, for now...

Bouldering, snowboarding, music, any sport really, fitness and health, good beer, wine and food (conveniently after fitness and health...), socializing, playing cards, movies, and genuinely interesting and adventurous people like me!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I appreciate something from just about every genre but some of my favourites are: Tool, A Perfect Circle, Klangkarussell, Rudimental, Neon Steve, Chet Faker, Alt-J, Die Antwoord, Gorrilaz, Rage Against the Machine, Queens of the Stone Age, Stone Temple Pilots, Elliot Brood, Sublime, Seeed, Fat Freddy's Drop, Bob Marley, and the list goes on...

Movies: Sci-Fi, comedy, action, documentary, Disney, aaaah yeaaaa Disney

Books: Better Bouldering, The Hobbit, Lonely Planet, don't read as much as I should but who has time to sit and read when there's mountains to climb, people to meet, and new places to explore right?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

How do I pick just one? Bungee jump, skydiving, jet boating, a canyon swing, and partying like a rockstar all in one week in Queenstown, New Zealand. White water rafting in NZ, canoe trips in Ontario, Canada and week-long camping expeditions in the mountain ranges of New Zealand. Snowboarding in the European Alps, New Zealand, and Canadian Rockies. Backpacking, camping and generally exploring the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Bouldering and camping in awesome areas of BC like Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, Pemberton, Squamish, Arrow Lakes and also in Mexico. Take your pick...
