About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Connecting with humans (and animals) every chance I get

ABOUT ME

Enjoying the beautiful desert lifestyle. After 8 years working in Navy medicine, I decided to go to work as a chef. Taking a break from doing that full-time to activate my brain and study architecture

PHILOSOPHY

Deeply spiritual, but not at all religious. I'm fascinated, if at times perplexed, by what drives people and makes them who they are. I believe that life is the greatest gift that anyone has ever received, and that we only get one, so it shouldn't be squandered

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couchsurfing made possible a coast-to-coast-and-back solo road trip. Now it's time to give back to the community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've made lifelong friends in places I never even thought I'd go (I'm talking to you, Cleveland). Before CS, I had a somewhat jaded view of humanity, in general, but my travels have shown me a totally different world. Few things give me more joy than sharing my experiences with people who have no idea this community even exists.

Interests

Food, music and people. Night skies, bike rides, bike rides under night skies. Food. Camping, hiking, and other outside stuff. Good beer, wine, cocktails. Oh, and food.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything that makes me think, grabs me, transports me, if only for a moment, helps me sleep or wakes me up. Most of all, anything worth sharing

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Miles out in the open ocean, standing at the rail of a darkened ship, there was an unfathomably infinite number and depth to the stars, and when I looked down I saw, not a reflection of that sky, but its perfect companion in the waves made alive by the brilliant green wisps of bioluminescent lifeforms

Teach, Learn, Share

My knives go everywhere with me (except airplanes) so I'll cook with/for/on/around anyone, anytime. I'm especially happy to show anyone how to sear a perfect steak (but I'm just as content to cook with/for vegetarians).

I'm working on starting my own little road to sustainability by raising Chickens, goats, and planting an organic vegetable garden. So if anyone's got experience in those areas, I could definitely use some pointers.

I've got an annual pass to the Joshua Tree National Park, and I'm always looking for people to go explore as much of that beautiful place as possible.

I love to sing, and if music is your thing, we've got some AMAZING local talent in and around Joshua Tree, and there's almost always a great show happening in the area.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I happen to live in one of the greatest places imaginable for sunsets and star gazing, but is also relatively close to civilization. And, I'm not terribly fond of cooking for one, so if you happen to be around and I have time, I'll probably be cooking something tasty

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Bahrain, Djibouti, Singapore, United Arab Emirates

Countries I’ve Lived In
