About Me

Hi, I'm Sab. I can't believe I'm already for more than a decade on CS. When I started in 2008, I used CS to travel around the world, which I did, for almost 15 months. It was the best time of my life and I met some of my best friends on the way.

2010 I returned to my native country, Germany, broke... I started working again. Hell I hated it. 5 month later I quit again and flew to Israel, traveled overland to Jordan and Egypt. I loved it.

2011 I returned again, got a well - paying job. 6 month work would make me enough money to travel several years. I left end of 2011, off to India for 6 month in order to find myself. After a few months i only found myself at the airport, ready to leave. Don't get me wrong, I loved India. But it's the most challenging place I have ever visited.

In 2012 I fell in love in Turkey and just like that I decided to stay. I ended up living for almost 2 years in Istanbul and I loved every moment of it.

2012 was also the year I started my travel blog. I wanted to find a way to turn traveling into a job but I had no idea how to start. I was dreaming of a job where you can test hotels and take photos of your travels... You know something like a travel tester.

But this job didn't exist. Until I created it. I created my own dream job by doing the things that I loved the most: Traveling. All I have is a passion for traveling and sharing my stories. I was crazy about traveling, to the point of madness that I was able to turn that into a job.

2014 my blog JustOneWayTicket.com was already making enough money, my feet were itchy again so I started traveling again to the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Panama, South Africa, Namibia and a few others.

In 2015 I returned to Germany to finally let go of all the things. I had sublet my flat for 7 years... It took me fucking 7 years to realize that I won't ever want to live in Germany again. Since 2015 I've been on and off in Thailand, 2016 I decided I need to settle a bit and signed a lease in Bangkok. Living for years in hotels is exhausting and not as glamorous as it sounds.

When I'm not in Bangkok, I'm traveling all over Asia which I consider my home these days.

I might live a simple live these days but I earned someyhing that money could never buy: Freedom. And what most people don't realize: you won't achieve freedom by making more money. You will find freedom by working less and spending less.

Update 2017: I moved to Singapore.

Update 2019: I moved to Bali, Indonesia.

Visit me and maybe I'll tell you some more stories... Cheers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hosting - Couchsurfing - Join or organize CS Events...I would like to give others the opportunity of seeing the world from a different point of view.

Welcoming someone into my home, my city and my country is a learning experience for all of us.

Please note: COUCHSURFING IS NOT A DATING WEBSITE!!! I DON'T TOLERATE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OR ANY MOLESTATION! CS is not to be used to romantically pursue other members.

Nobody should use CS with calculated thoughts!

MY COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted quite a bunch of people in my flat in Berlin, Karlsruhe and Istanbul. Most of the times, it was good fun. Never had a bad experience.

I couchsurfed also a lot, in Macau, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan, Australia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico, New York, Israel, India, Turkey, France, Italy, United Arab Emirates and Egypt... and lately even in Germany a few times.

I had amazing couchsurf experiences: in Hong Kong i stayed in an apartment in the 70th floor - it was outstanding!! better than any 5 star hotel!

In Cebu (Philippines) my host took me out to a wedding...

In Belize I couchsurfed on an caribbean Island, we slept in hammocks in the garden.

The absolutely best and most unforgettable travel experiences i had trough couchsurfing!

Traveling is a wonderful thing.... but it doesn't matter where you go or in how many countries you have been - it's all about who you meet.
