About Me

General enthusiast, plays well with others, Pittsburgh transplant, and Fulbright Alumnus.

New-England born, Florida schooled, but had the privilege of living in Brazil twice, once through a volunteer experience and again through a Fulbright where I taught English at the Federal University of São Carlos.

Recently relocated to Pittsburgh to begin work doing research and data management at the regional economic development body.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Looking for the occasional couch while apartment hunting, but also to meet a few welcoming folks in a new city.

It's down as a 2019 goal of mine to leverage couch-surfing as a way to meet some decent human beings, build a community, and host once I have the real estate to offer.

Interests

Currently Purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and looking to continue training in Pittsburgh.

Devoting time to study data analysis and storage including Python & R programming and database admin.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movie - Hands down "Casablanca."

"Here's looking at you kid."

Book - Huckleberry Finn is the all time classic.

I love non-fiction on sociology and psychology such as "Grit" by Anglea Lee Duckworth and "Sapiens" by Yuval Noah Harari.

Round it all out by Philosophy in the morning and trashy Sci-Fi in the evening.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm still very proud of how quickly and deeply I adapted in Brazil. I found a República and lived in a house divided with 9 Brazilians and forged some amazing friendships. It hurt to go, but that most likely means I did it right.

The details are many, but not always PG. Send message and I would love to swap a few war stories.

Teach, Learn, Share

I taught English while in Brazil, but my wheelhouse is Market Research and Business.

I only figured out I had a brain when I was 22, so I am playing catch-up on being a contributing member of society.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Always happy to supply a bottle of wine or a six pack, swap a few stories, and make an attempt to solve the world's problems.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Bolivia, France, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Brazil, United States
