About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experience the joyful sights and people in the world

ABOUT ME

Just starting a serious "real job" in Washington DC. But for the past few months in between grad school and work, I loved having the opportunity to get some wanderlust out of my system by visiting Italy, Morocco, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
—Albert Camus

‘There’s no greys, only white that’s got grubby. I’m surprised you don’t know that. And sin, young man, is when you treat people as things. Including yourself. That’s what sin is.’
‘It’s a lot more complicated than that—’
‘No. It ain’t. When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they means they’re getting worried that they won’t like the truth. People as things, that’s where it starts.’
‘Oh, I’m sure there are worse crimes—’
‘But they starts with thinking about people as things.’
—Terry Pratchett

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.
—H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.
—Paul Dudley White

The rest of the world cannot appreciate your enthusiasm for what seems to them a bizarre and pointless activity. The word “nerd” comes to mind. But we are all nerds about something, unless we are couch potatoes who have no interests except what’s on TV.
—Ian Stewart

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have officially CouchSurfed once so far and I think it's a great idea. Once my life is a bit more settled in this new city, I'd like to start hosting CSers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've done a fair amount of informal couchsurfing with friends (both as surfer and as host), but I've only "officially" CSed once so far.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Glowworms in New Zealand have to be near the top of the list. Thousands of blue dots outlining the ceiling of an otherwise pitch-black cave... It kind of feels like the stars have descended to wrap you in a cozy blanket.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love music and enjoy playing music (especially clarinet, piano, or accordion) together with others -- duets, in a band, piano accompanist for singers, etc.
I'm more than happy to teach/tutor any kind of math from basic arithmetic to advanced statistical theory.
And I like cooking, especially baking bread from scratch.

I'm always up for learning new languages or practicing the bits of Spanish/Swedish/Russian/Hungarian that I remember.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Australia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Fiji, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, New Zealand, Romania, Turkey, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Hungary, Poland, Sweden, United States
