About Me
Hello!
My name is Jakob Sumearll. I am a traveling dancer, acro yogi, adventurist, and just happy person. Currently I am out and about through Western Europe on a trip given to myself following my recent graduation with my baccalaureate degree in civil engineering (continuing in the fall with a graduate program at the University of Washington). I hope to be visiting Ireland, London, France, Italy, Germany, and Denmark! Most of the countries will be new experiences for me.
About myself...
I enjoy meeting new people and making friends. I am socially an extrovert and am very comfortable sharing spaces and being close with others. I also prioritize new experiences and rarely turn down a spontaneous offer. One of my personal philosophies is to always try something twice... as to not let a single experience dictate my opinion.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My participation...
At this point, I have not been in a space where hosting a couchsurfer has been possible. This is a result of location (Laramie, WY for my undergraduate education and the opinions of my rather conservative roommates). I hope to change this in the future.
My experience...
As a traveling dancer, I have experienced sleeping on everything from hardwood floors in Rennes, France to a couch in Denver, CO with a cat. I have no allergies nor specific requirements of ammenities. Personally, I do not desire the "luxury" (and cost) associated with hotel/hostel lodging when all I'm looking for is a roof over my head.
The why...
I see couchsurfing as a lovely mode of sharing between individuals... whether this leads to cooking a meal, going on an adventure, dancing/acroyoga, or simply sharing spacing. This is my reason for reaching out to the couchsurfing community.
Interests
My interests are vast. I fun enjoyment sharing stories (ask me, for I have a few to share), participating in outdoor adventures (rock climbing, running, acroyoga, dancing, etc.), and observing building and bridge structures. If it's fun or interesting, I'd love to take part. If it's something new to me, most definitely.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Perhaps that most intensive project that I've ever worked on was the 2015 submission at the University of Wyoming for the ASCE/AISC Student Steel Bridge competition. Basically it was a competition for student civil engineers in which the students develop a design for a bridge that can be constructed purely of steel components that are prefabricated into 3' by 6" by 4" box dimensions. That is to say that the students both design and build the entire structure. As for the competition, while the loading cases are know (somewhat) the bridges are evaluated on weight, stiffness, constructability (on-site timed assembly), and aesthetics. Why the competition was amazing for me... well, my team dropped out on me, so the entire design was my creation. I received help to fabricate and weld, but I single-handedly built a 3D SolidWorks model to outline my design. It took hundreds to thousands of hours of work outside of class. Currently the bridge stands as a model in the engineering college at the University of Wyoming.
Teach, Learn, Share
I come offering dancing lessons / practice time for individuals interested. The base would be in blues or swing. I also would love to instruct or play with acroyoga!
If there is something local or special or exciting that a host would like to share with me, I'd love the offer.
What I Can Share with Hosts
As a typical exchange, I always offer to my dance hosts that I can homecook lunch or dinner. Cooking and food are passions of mine that I would love to share with prospective hosts.
