About Me

I am Kaan. I am doing a phd in Paris. I majored in Philosophy, then did a Master on Archaeology, now I am more into history. My research concerns mainly the greek presence in Egypt between 6. century-4th century BC. I can read several dead languages. Mostly I am calm, except when I am singing, and discussing politics.
I do bjj and bouldering too, but my research takes most of my time nowadays.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well funding is not so amazing for young historians you know, plus I don't like the aura of sacred/untouchable/higher/priestly like/museumish attitude which the current academical system forces you to assume. I believe meeting with all types of people is important.

Interests

I do bjj and bouldering, not a professional, I give long pauses now and then, but still they are something I can not keep myself apart.
I play ney and bağlama, and bass guitar.
I did a little theater in University, but now I am mostly a reader, I like old plays, like 5th century BC old.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music changes every so often. One day it is Bill Evans trio, the other it is Tolga Sağ, or Iranian tanbour players, some Stravinsky along with Dillenger Escape Plan.
Books, i rarely read books, apart from research of course.
Movies, I don't watch movies, i watch animes, there is a difference.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I translate ancient texts and present them online freely. Most probably, I am currently the only guy translating old persian, egyptian aramaic, ancient egyptian to turkish.

Teach, Learn, Share

A fun fact: In ancient greek, the word that means the truth, veracity, also means sincerity, a maxim I believe very strongly.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share what I know, not more not less, that includes quite a bit of knowledge on a very specific time in history.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Italy, Norway, Russian Federation, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In
