About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Agroecology, growing a non-profit, and keeping the dust off my books...

ABOUT ME

There is nothing better than working hard for something you believe in--and its even better when you can bring your best college friends along.

I founded an NGO with friends called Semilla Nueva. You can visit it at SemillaNueva.org. We help small farmers learn growing methods that lessen their reliance on chemicals, rebuild their soils, and grow more food. We´re only in our second year, but we do have volunteer opportunities for people who can be in Guatemala for more than 6 months (it takes a while to be able to really work effectively in the campo).

In my little spare time, I try to explore Guatemala, keep reading good books, play a bit of guitar, and spend time with the friends that make the experience here so rewarding--oh and keep reminding myself that someday I really want to build a little house with my own hands in Idaho.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am out of town a lot for work in the field, but I try to host when I can and give anyone advice on the little I know about Guatemala.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Fantastic. Great conversations with people you wouldn't otherwise meet and a feeling of participating in making the world a lot more friendly and trusting.

Interests

Good work and great conversation.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Led a project that involved producing 400 gallons of biodiesel from pirated waste oil, driving a biodiesel bus from Walla Walla, Washington to Nicaragua, and teaching a couple NGO´s how to do the same.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can talk about agriculture in Guatemala, ancient Greek philosophy, Heidegger, the major guitar chords, the nature of activism, and breathing.

I'd love to learn some more German and am always up for learning about how the world could be better...
