Über mich

I was born in China and moved to the US after first grade. I lived in Long Island New York for a few years before moving to Pittsburgh. In high school, I played video games, opened e-commerce businesses on eBay and Amazon, and started investing in the secondary markets. After high school, I went to Yale, where I majored in Economics and studied history and Chinese. Due to my personal investing experience, I worked at Morgan Stanley in options trading my sophomore year, and then at PIMCO my junior year. During my senior year, I cofounded a hedge fund and served as the portfolio manager. After graduation, I moved to New York and worked at McKinsey for a year and a half before leaving to startup my own startup, Fives, which aims to bring your online social network offline so that you can strengthen your friendship with your online friends. In my free time, I love to dance, travel, and have a good conversation.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I want to move back to China in the near future, so I want to improve my Mandarin. More importantly, I want to make some new friends in China. I love making new friends, learning about other people's experiences, and sharing our dreams and passions.

Interessen

I love to dance. During high school, I started to learn how to dance in order to impress my crush. Fortunately or unfortunately, most of the people who appreciated my new dance moves were my guy friends. Nevertheless, I began to develop a love of dance, especially hip hop and breakdance. I did learn some ballroom in college but definitely much better free-styling.

I also enjoy traveling. My first international solo trip was to China when I was 14. it was somewhat nerve-racking, but very exciting. Ever since I've never passed an opportunity to travel, to visit a new place, to learn about a new culture. I believe that life is made up of the experiences that you have, so seize opportunities to expand your experiences.

I am somewhat of an adrenaline-junky. I love roller coasters (have been on the tallest and the 2nd fastest roller coasters in the world), sky-diving, white-water rafting, etc. These activities really make me feel alive.

There is also a calm, nerdy side to me of course. I can talk about history and politics/international relations for hours on end (I promise I won't do so if you're not interested. My EQ is high enough to tell :P). I am particularly interested in the rise and fall of empires, power politics, and geopolitics.

Lastly, I'm passionate about entrepreneurship. Having worked at my parents' restaurant since I was 9 years old, I've always admired people who can start something from nothing, who are brave enough to take the risk to pursue what they want to do, to reach for their dreams despite all of the obstacles. That's why I'm working on the own startup now, which is by far the hardest thing I've ever done.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

After graduation, I embarked on a 3-months long Asia trip. I first traveled to Hong Kong, where I experienced both the craziness of LKF and the peace of the Big Buddha. I then made my way to India, where I experienced the intense heat of summer and the power of the monsoon. The wind then took me to Thailand, where I enjoyed the savory local dishes and relaxed with elephants. I finished off my trip in China, where I felt the comfort the home and the love of my family, including my grandma who raised me.
