About Me

I'm technically an American, although I don't spend all that much time there. For the most part I live on the road, working as a freelance writer to pay the bills and a novelist to feed the soul, currently stationed in Dundee, Scotland with an amazing fellow couchsurfer who I met in Nepal (We each thought the other one was kinda cute, and have ended up moving in together). The eclectic resume includes working in publishing, the film industry, a bit of carpentry, and running a restaurant. I love travelling, meeting new people and filling my life with new flavors (culinary and cultural), and whenever I'm grounded am happy to host anyone who's looking for a good meal and a good conversation, in the US, the UK, or anywhere else I might end up.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To be a traveller instead of a tourist. To get a look at how people live, whether they're staying with me or me with them. To meet the generally wonderful people who do this thing.

Interests

Writing, reading, learning. Good food, great company. I love to cook-- one of the joys of travel is finding new ingredients and figuring out what they can do. Art. Theater. Mountain climbing, trekking, kayaking. And people. People are pretty cool.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music depends on the time of day-- most gets the indie treatment, Bon Iver, Ben Howard, Dispatch, Mumford & Sons for roadtrips. Evening leans more towards Django Reinhardt, Duke Ellington, good jazz. Late night gets the blues. Though I also really dig showtunes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Annapurna circuit in Nepal, dawn bronze light frosting over 8000 rearing meters of glacial snow. A Kashmiri wedding feast, with 21 courses of meat. A 2 week kayak trip in Glacier Bay, Alaska. Climbing Mt. Olympus by moonlight. Hanging out with a 6 year old Kashmiri girl who thought she was Arya Stark, and kept trying to beat me up with a stick.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories. Home cooked meals. Recommendations for travel on several continents, things to do, things not to do, and ways to not take it all too seriously. On top of this, I'm a wealth of random fun facts, and have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the Star Wars universe.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Nepal, Poland, Scotland, Spain, Turkey, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
