À propos de moi
CURRENT MISSION
to learn and teach how to grow and heal our world. to build my own house out of tires and glass bottles. to create a forest garden everywhere i go.
ABOUT ME
i am building a composting toilet in my yard. it is inspired by the earthship crew i worked with in jamaica last year, who builds houses out of earth-packed tires, plastic and glass bottles, mud, and a little cement.
i came upon ecovillages while i was studying in senegal as a college student, and have realized since that i need to live in community. and that we all do, really. there are millions out there, and i've thrived off of visiting communities all over the world, and learning from their diversity and common intention. to live lightly, and happy, and free. which also seems to be mine.
i live on an amazing island off the south coast of massachusetts, called martha's vineyard. i garden with the most lovely ladies, and swim in the ocean as often as i possibly can get my toes in there.
these days, i've been reading about, dreaming about, thinking about, eating around, planning my life around permaculture. i've co-taught a few courses, and learn more from each student than from any book i could have read. i feel inspired. and grateful.
i built a solar oven last year, and cooked rice and beans and chocolate chip cookies in the back of my pickup truck as i gardened. a dream. i want to build solar ovens everywhere i go.
PHILOSOPHY
angels can fly because they take themselves lightly. keep laughing, always, always.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
i am new to "couchsurfing," but for the past few years have been informally surfing couches in houses all over the world, from tiny villages in senegal to apartments in new delhi, to farms in scotland.
Centres d'intérêt
eating carrots out of the ground, cooking black rice in my solar oven, making kimchi and kombucha, building greywater systems with fanta bottles and cob, ocean ocean ocean, jazz music, indian food - cooking, eating, smelling - dancing, singing, trekking from desert plains to snowy mountains, marmots, pigeon pea, coconut chutney, headstands, NPR ("wait, wait, don't tell me" on saturdays at 11 am), and the love of my life, 2 1/2 year old angel named nevin.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
fleet foxes and first aid kit are my tunes of choice at the moment. one hundred years of solitude will always amaze me, and god of small things is incredible. david sedaris and bill bryson make me laugh like no one else, and for that i am utterly grateful. rob reiner films will never get old. wes anderson too...and woody allen, his earlier films at least, will always do something for me. michel gondry. undoubtedly.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
my father just turned sixty. right after his birthday he met me in india and we trekked for 10 days at 16,000 feet. he had open heart surgery 3 years ago. nothing can stop that man.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
i want to teach the art of compost, growing veggies in any possible space in your living room that gets light, and peeing on your plants. i want to learn how to grow...myself, food, my world, people around me. i want to teach yoga, and learn dance from all over the world. i want to teach how i cook rice, and learn to cook as many different dishes as possible. i want to learn to play the guitar. and sing. at the same time. and i want to build houses with everyone i meet.
