About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To make community cool again/To tell a great story well
ABOUT ME
By night, I am the proprietor of the Spontaneous Prose Store. By day, I am an aspiring bee wrangler/rooftop gardener, lover of life, sandwich enthusiast, wide-eyed curiosity seeker, book fondler, question asker, amateur line-dance inventor, footnote collector, whisky drinker...
PHILOSOPHY
in no particular order
1. Friends are for bragging about
2. Justice is what love looks like in public
3. Everyone is a potential Buddha
4. If you want it to be a job you have to treat it like a job
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
As we* say at the store, "eye contact is the antidote to Facebook", at least we did, until we discovered couch surfing. There is nothing better than seeing the light come on in people when you get them talking about the things they love, and I would like to be the guy who runs around flicking on all the light switches.
*by 'we', I mean 'I'
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Before I joined I took an epic road trip from San Francisco to Vancouver with two Swedes, a guy From Las Vegas (and his two adorable dogs) who all knew each other through couch surfing.... If anyone reading this knows Rob with the dodge conversion van from las vegas, please tell him I've been looking for him.
Interests
I love books more than just about everything. Accept sandwiches. I love sandwiches the most.
Recently I've been getting super excited about urban agriculture and food security/sustainability, especially where it relates to community building and ESPECIALLY where it relates to bees. If you want to be fascinated, learn about bees.
I can't drive but hope that with practice I will one day elevate passenging to the artform it was meant to be.

Music, Movies, and Books
The Pixies are my all time favourite band of all time. Every new book I read becomes my favourite until I read another book, but to name a few that withstood the second read: The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Peter Pan, The Fountainhead, Weetzie Bat, Never Mind The Pollocks, The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test, A Room Of One's Own, All American Poem.... also, I sleep with a copy of Frank O'Hara's collected works under my pillow
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
1.At a music festival on the Toronto islands I saw a flamenco band play by a bonfire on the beach. They had set up a piece of plywood for the dancers and as the guitars thrummed harder and the singers voices deepened and trilled like preturnatural longing the dancers were spinning and stomping faster and faster and all the people watching started clapping in that quick syncopated way the fire kept jumping higher and higher like the dancers were conjuring the flames while behind them the moon rose over the water and somewhere in the distance lighting flashed but the thunder didn't roll over the beach until the song was done.
2. I tried to crash a talk that Irvine Welsh was giving at some very highbrow cultural symposium and the only thing I heard him say before the lady with the headset escorted me out of the building was "I believe in doing a thing well"
