About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To connect lifelong friendships with like-minded couchsurfers.

ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Bx and I come from sunny Singapore! A traveler at heart, I made my first solo trip to New Zealand at the age of 20. I have an optimistic attitude and above all an open mind to the cultures of the globe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While living in New Zealand, I stayed in a hostel filled with travelers of all kinds of nationalities. The hostel had a very familial atmosphere where we all helped one other out, and being away from home, there was a sense of solidarity shared among all of us. It gave me a very positive experience which I felt greatly as a young man. The world is a much kinder, greater place than what I was taught to believe in.

Consequently, a week after returning from NZ, I took another solo trip, this time to Hokkaido. The six weeks I spent living in the countryside was yet another touching experience for me, as the locals treated me kindly and warmly. I also made a few international friendships whom I still keep in touch after more than a year.

As a young man, these 2 trips had a huge impact on me and it gave courage and encouragement to continue traveling. More than anything, I wanted to visit my friends in their countries and see them again one day. It also led me to wonder, if there are people out there like me, who wants to not only travel and meet new people, but also keep the friendships they made? And this is why I decided to join Couchsurfing, because I believe it can bring people together (:

During my mandatory military service, I was also posted to Thailand for a year in rural Kanchanaburi. This yet another global exposure internationalise my mindset as a globetrotter and made me synthesise information differently from the rest of my peers and see things from a different perspective

These overseas experiences has unlocked a restlessness in my heart and mind that yearns for more global exposure and evolve my mindset and perspective

That led me to doing 2 exchanges in university, one in South Korea where I spent 4 weeks at Yonsei University during the Summer 2022 and; in Iceland where I spent 4 months in my penultimate term at the University of Iceland (Haskoli Islands)

Since I was so near to Europe, I decided to visit 6 countries before flying home to Singapore in end-2022; Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy!

After graduation from university in July 2023, I am currently working as a HR executive in Singapore. Recently, I have been into traveling to China.

Interests

In my free time, these are the few of things I enjoy:

1)Books, Articles and News.

I like reading history books because it allows me to feel that I am living in a ancient world with people in the past and understand how they live. I also enjoy reading articles and news to find out more about what is going on in the world.

2) Documentaries, Movies and Anime.

Sometimes when I am lazy to read, I use documentaries to learn more about the globe which provides a great visual experience. I watch movies when I am bored, and my favorite studio is Studio Ghibli! Hayao Miyazaki is a legend to me. I also enjoy watching anime and it is what led me to take up the Japanese Language.

3) Blog

I have a picture blog at www.outofmyroom.com

4) Music and Daydream

Sometimes I just lie on my bed, listen to emotional music and daydream out of reality.

5) Friends

I also enjoy heart-to-heart conversations with my close friends under the night sky (:

6) YouTube channel

I own a YouTube channel where I talk about my experiences! You can find it here: https://youtube.com/channel/UCH9iIvSyUUATRSz-Su2tmxg

Music, Movies, and Books

Find out when you meet me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in New Zealand, my friend and I waited for 3 hours in a cyclone to hitchhike to a geothermal park!

Teach, Learn, Share

Currently, as I am still living with my family, I am unable to host, much to my regret. However, I will still be very happy to meet up with you! I hope to host someday when I have my own house to repay the kindness of the Couchsurfing community.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to share with you about the stories of my travel and the culture of my hometown. I am also an easygoing person who doesn't mind stepping out of my comfort zone to try new things. As a graduate of hospitality, I would also keep the place clean and share in any miscellaneous costs that may arise throughout my stay with you. Hope to be your lifelong friend!
