About Me

We are two happy-go-lucky people who love to travel the world, see new places and meet people. We have settled down in beautiful Canterbury in England with our dog, but in June it's time for another backpacking trip, returning to our beloved USA where we enjoyed a grand adventure back in 2012.

We are both very friendly and easygoing, and we tend to get along with everyone. We always have fun wherever we go and whatever we do. We are creative, caring, compassionate; we love animals and nature, but we also really enjoy cities. The world is just one big playground to explore, and we are interested in everything!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We find that travelling via Couchsurfing becomes an entirely different experience. It's such a privilege to get to meet local people and see how they live, hear about their daily lives and maybe learn a few words from their language. To us, that is a truly rewarding way of experiencing a new place. And we have found that people on Couchsurfing are exceptional, open-minded, friendly people and we've always had great experiences.

We have no expectations and are grateful for everything - whether you want to meet up for a coffee or go exploring, show us around your area, or you prefer to just chill low-key at your home and share stories with each other - we are up for anything!

Interests

KAJSA: I studied art and film production, and have spent my life fiddling with various creative endeavours like drawing, jewellery-making, singing, guitar, piano. I'm a self-published author and am now working on my next novel and a poetry collection. I also love languages and I'm getting on quite well with my Spanish.

MIKE: I studied geography, economy and European Studies at uni. After a career in marketing I'm thinking of returning to the study desk, to hopefully do a Masters in Consciousness. This degree marries many of my interests, for example neuroscience, philosophy/spirituality, and psychedelic medicine. On a more grounded level, I'm also keen on football (soccer!) and silly puns.

BOTH: We love to travel, explore, contemplate life and discuss anything big or small, and get to know new people and cultures.

Music, Movies, and Books

We particularly enjoy atmospheric indie movies (Kajsa's all-time favourite is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), but Mike is also keen on political thrillers and such, but we find ourselves watching anything from world cinema to cheesy romcoms.

Similarly, we like folk/indie music (Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst is a strong favourite), but again, our tastes vary and we can range from radio hits to classical via dubstep, grime, Disney songs and Italian pop. So yeah, most things :)

Kajsa's top authors are Jack Kerouac, L.A. Meyer and Liz Gilbert. Mike is a non-fiction fiend and has recently enjoyed books on neuroscience, Buddhism, and political economy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

KAJSA: At the age of 20 I moved from desolate Swedish countryside to London, UK, where my life began. I'm so grateful for all the awesome adventures I've had in that city!

When I was 24 I left everything behind to go backpacking across South America on my own. This was particularly exciting for me because I had never done anything like it before, and without a plan or return ticket, I crossed four countries, through deserts and jungles and cities, completely free to go wherever whenever. It was a most incredible adventure and it made me a better person.

MIKE and KAJSA: We went backpacking together in 2012, five months through South and North America, and we had the time of our lives and met so many amazing, fascinating people (and SO many incredible couchsurfing hosts who kindly took us in!). And now we have built a wonderful life for ourselves with a great little dog and a house we have renovated, in the medieval city of Canterbury.
