About Me

PLEASE NOTE:

When you send me a request, please take the time to tell me who you are and why do you want to stay with me. Don’t send me a copy paste message. Also very important thing to note, having interaction with your host is important, otherwise why would you stay at someone’s house. My house is not a free AirBnB, or Booking.com. If you don’t talk or make any interaction with me, you shouldn’t stay with me. I genuinely find it really odd, awkward and uncomfortable when people I host barely talk or hangout with me, go out for lunch, dinner, or whatever, really, but always have the time to go out with other locals, or when in the house, they’re always on the phone. To release you from this moral obligation, please find a hotel.

—————————————————————————

Hi guys, I am Kama!I am from Indonesia, the biggest archipelago in the world, a paradise for those who seek for tropical heaven. I was an architect until last year 2016 when I decided to pursue a different career path. I enjoy daylight activities. I always love spending time in nature either alone or with friends. It's the sense of being more connected that always draws me back to nature whenever I have spare time. Other than that, I'd spend my day checking out museums or art exhibitions. I'm really into art and music. I love going out with friends to a music recital (classic, jazz, contemporary). I love books, I could spend hours reading books in my room, at the beach or a cafe, or pretty much anywhere. And top of it all, I enjoy meeting new people, learning different culture and embarking on new adventure.

I moved to Yogya from Jakarta, and live in a 2-bedroom house by myself with five cats, Otis, Mylo, Luna, Fudge, & Puma. I turned the other room into my wardrobe. However, if you’re a solo traveler, you’re welcome to stay with me in my room on a separate sleeping mattress. Or take the mattress to the other rooms of your choice.

I have plenty of books that you can borrow during your stay, free wifi, two bathrooms (1 sitting toilet and 1 squat toilet). I am not a smoker, so you are not allowed to smoke in the house. The house itself is situated in a less-crowded neighborhood. Located only 5 mins away from Adi Sucipto airport, you can take an ojek (motor transport with driver), taxi or any online transport (Uber, Gojek/Gocar, Grab) or even walk (which I have done) for around 15-20 minutes, depending on how fast and motivated you are to walk 😛 If you take train, my house is 20 minutes away. You can choose either of those aforementioned means of transport or a bus (TransJogja) which costs you Rp 3500 ($0.3 or £0.2). I can also help you set up your itinerary if you're clueless and it's your first time traveling to this part of the world, and I am mostly free, with hours of free time spare where I'd be happy to explore the area with you while sharing my knowledge about all the places we're visiting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am all fascinated with meeting new people 👫👭👬I have been traveling quite avidly in my country. Even since I was 5, my family would never stick to one place, where I always find myself having to adjust to new environment and people. There’s always a tiny part inside of me that is constantly craving to finding new things, places and people.

Even though I have never used this web until recently, I believe this is one of the best outlets to meet new people and share experience with. And since I am a good listener and love to hear stories, I'd like to hear all your journey.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Quentin Tarantino, Hayao Miyazaki, Akira Kurosawa, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Clint Eastwood, Peter Jackson, Tim Burton and Louis Malle.

Music: Pretty much any kind of music, from Bach to Alt-J. Louis Armstrong to Disclosure.

Books: I am a book nerd. I really enjoy reading books. Also have a lil library in my home, around a thousand or two. My reading ranges from science, literature, classic, fantasy, politics and social science.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being born. Haha! I was in the 6th place at the International Mathematic Olympic when I was 15 😅. 😬😬

When I decided to quit architecture and pursue photography, I didn't know that it'd lead me to where I am. Listed in HuffPost as one of "the Southeast Asian Photographer on Instagram You Should Follow" and Shutterstock's list of "60 Travel Bloggers and Photographers on Instagram to Fuel Your Wanderlust" is a huge start for me. Never be afraid to follow your heart and do what's best for you. Never be afraid to try new things. You never know where it'll lead you. And most importantly, you wouldn't spend your life regretting things you never tried when given a chance to, and wishing you had.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Indonesian, also cook and bake.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Oatmeal and soy milk.

Some local insight and hopefully some laughter. I would definitely go out with you and show you around. Catching sunrise or sunset, go to the museums, temples, hiking, Sultan Palace, or help you try local delicacies.

We can share and exchange stories about each other lives. Most importantly, I want to make my surfers feels like home during their stay.
