About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To not be afraid to live my life the way I want it lived. To get out there and DO something rather than saying, "I would like to do something someday."

ABOUT ME

I am a girl. I am 28. I live in Texas, I have lived here since I was three, and I consider myself to be a Texas Girl through and through. :)

It's difficult to talk about myself because what I do with my life and what I want out of said life changes far too frequently. I haven't gone back to school because I don't know what to study, my interests change with the seasons. I hop from job to job because I crave the variety. I can't stay stuck behind a desk all day, but at the same time, I can't deal with customers 24/7 either.

Life goes through phases of making complete sense and confusing the piss out of me. But all in all, I'm pretty happy with the way things are working out. :)

PHILOSOPHY

Positivity breeds positivity, and negativity breeds negativity. Which would you rather foster?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have stayed on a few couches and have just recently opened up my apartment to receive new surfers. I am a huge fan of this project. It looks like the next section will be a good place to explain why.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

During 2007, I spent about six months living on the couches of friends who were kind enough to put up with me. I was in between apartments, I couldn't move into a new one because I owed my old one a pretty decent chunk of change. I stayed with friends during this time and saved up the money I needed to pay off my debt and get myself a place of my own. During those six months, I could not have survived were it not for the kindness of people and their couches.

I also recently went to the Hoop Path Retreat in Carborro, NC, where I stayed with a man I had never met who graciously opened his home to me and two other hoopers. Staying with him not only saved me scads of money I would have otherwise spent on a hotel, it also greatly enriched my entire experience by getting to meet and be surrounded by these new people for the weekend.

Couch surfing is not always ideal like this. There were times during my six month stint that I wanted nothing more than to sleep on a bed in a room by myself, when I considered sleeping in my car just to get some privacy. But I was never once ungrateful to the people who were willing to take me in and not ask for anything in return. The whole concept of couch surfing, of sharing with others you may not even know, of trusting in the kindness of strangers, it is such a fantastic thing that I cannot help but love it.

Interests

Right now? Mostly hoop dance, vlogging and writing. I've also been an avid knitter/crocheter, though I haven't done as much recently. I love music, I love movies, and reading. Oh, and I love roller coasters. There is nothing in life a good ride on a roller coaster cannot fix.

Hmm...I also love pizza. And ice cream. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES: Almost Famous = #1 favorite of all time. The rest: Any Kevin Smith movie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Royal Tennenbaums, Ghost World. Guilty pleasures: Bring It On, Clueless, Coyote Ugly.

MUSIC: Pretty much anything, though I tend to lean heavily toward indie/pop. Favorites: Rasputina, Imogen Heap, Marcy Playground, They Might Be Giants. I could list other bands I love, but it would go on forever. If I don't love it, I probably just haven't heard it yet. :)

BOOKS: The Princess Bride is my favorite, I've read it a million times and have about four different copies. Eat, Pray, Love comes in a close second. Authors: Terry Pratchett, Danny Wallace, John Green, David Levithan, Douglas Adams. Genres: Comedic Fantasy, memoir, young adult. I am also currently enjoying abusing my copy of Wreck This Journal!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm sure I've got something cool I could add to this, but my mind is of course blanking on me. I think I've done lots of amazing things because I tend to look for the amazing in everything. Life is amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a pretty wide list of things I am moderately knowledgeable about. I probably know more about roller coasters than you care to know. :) I teach hoop dance classes, I have in the past taught and coached swimming. I'm currently learning as much as I can about video editing, and I've also recently started making corsets.
