We're two 30-year-old Australians who have packed up our things and are spending the year abroad. This is a once in a lifetime trip for us and we believe it's a way of investing in ourselves. Travel affords an education that you cannot gain from any other experience and we wish to learn as much as we can, wherever we are travelling to.

We spend much of our time learning about our two great loves in life - food and photography. Both of us are first-generation Chinese migrants and food is an incredibly important part of our lives. This has been embedded in the way we interact.

We believe food is an extension of a place's ethnic, geographic, historical, tribal context and you can learn a lot by sharing a meal together with someone. This extends into photography as a way for us to document this and provides a platform for us to story-tell.

My favourite example of this is Cal Fussman's "goulash" story on the Tim Ferriss podcast where one simple question of asking what makes a great goulash turned into an amazing travel adventure:

I love exploring what makes people who they are. People's perspectives and personalities are shaped by their experiences and getting to know the stories behind these experiences are extremely intriguing to me. Whilst I believe the majority of Couchsurfers can offer to clean the dishes or cook a meal, truthfully I would prefer to have a great sit-down conversation and get to know the person. I believe this exchange in value by learning from one another is worth far more than a free meal or a cleaner kitchen.
