I travel for the people and the mountains. I live in El Alto, Bolivia (practically La Paz), but grew up in Seattle in the United States, and have also lived in Cusco, Peru. Always stoked to get outdoors rain or shine, and love to see what people love about their homes!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have several traveller friends who have recommended it not only for its affordability but more importantly the opportunity to get to know local folks, share a meal, and share experiences. As someone who lives abroad, I so greatly value the chance to make those connections with people.

Interests

I'm always interested in trying new things, which is why I love the idea of being shown around by local folks. I love anything outdoors (real big on hiking), love to dance (anything from salsa to ballet to hip hop, and I'm a Zumba instructor), or just sharing conversation over a meal or a drink.

Music, Movies, and Books

Generally I go for the more laid-back tunes - some examples of artists include José Gonzalez, Explosions in the Sky, or Ben Howard. However, I have a weakness for Beyoncé. My favorite movie will always be Hot Rod, but The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is also a competitor. Books that drive me crazy in the best way include East of Eden, The Road to Peace, Hopscotch, and The Shack.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Life right now feels pretty amazing. I get to lead an incredible team of social workers, therapists, and educators that are committed to walking alongside survivors of prostitution and sexual violence here in El Alto. The work is hard, but so worth it for our amigas and their kiddos.

La vida ahorita siente bastante increíble. Tengo la oportunidad de liderar a un equipo maravilloso de trabajadores sociales, terapeutas, y educadoras que se han comprometido a caminar con sobrevivientes de la prostitución y violencia sexual aquí en El Alto. El trabajo es duro, pero vale la pena por nuestras amigas y sus hijos.

Teach, Learn, Share

Love to teach people about life and local culture here, specifically as it has to do with some of the injustices many local friends are facing. As a Zumba instructor, I also love teaching dance, obviously! I love learning from other folks whatever they have to offer -- I'm always looking for new cooking tips or recipes!

What I Can Share with Hosts

As someone who really values hospitality, I also really value being an appreciative and enjoyable guest. I would likely love to share with a host what they want to share with me - good conversation is key for me and I'd love to share whatever I can, whether it be corny jokes, recipes, travel tips, etc. More than anything I will be extremely grateful for the kindness of someone who wants to share alongside me, and I think it would be incredible to make friends and travel buddies that last far past my stay.

Como alguien que valora mucho la hospitalidad, también valoro mucho ser una huésped apreciativa y agradable.
