About Me

Hi, I'm Kara. Sort of your run of the mill long-term traveler. I love new opportunities, getting out of my comfort zone, making new friends, I get way too excited about saving money on my budget, and I dream about the day I get to own a full sized fluffy towel again. :)

I have been traveling for 3 years straight now, covering 33 countries. If that sounds long to you, it is, and I do not fully understand how I've managed to pull that off either! As you might expect, I'm beginning to slow down a bit now, and am starting to make an effort to sort out a plan for putting down some roots.

Before I became a full time nomad, I worked in the music industry managing bands, songwriters, and producers. So if you're sick of hearing travel stories, I can talk your ear off with tour stories as well.

I'm very friendly, laid back, easy to hold a conversation with, and very low maintenance as far as a guest goes. Happy to hang out with you as much or as little as you would like.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've heard about Couchsurfing throughout my travels over the last 3 years, but never got around to using it.. so, time to change! Hoping to get the chance to connect with a broader range of people, outside of the typical hostel network.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lord of the Rings. Nothing else matters.

Also Friends and How I Met Your Mother... those also matter.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

3 years and 34 countries yields a lot of good stories...

Diving at The Great Barrier Reef, jungle trekking in Malaysia, that time Search and Rescue had to follow our ferry going to Dublin, driving a van full of backpackers on the Transfagarasan Road (Romania), walking the red carpet at a film premier in Berlin, not injuring myself driving a scooter in Vietnam, successfully tracked down a bus that left me behind at a rest stop in Montenegro, living on a private catamaran in Sydney Harbour for a weekend, etc etc etc.

The biggest story I have, however, is that I never actually planned to go traveling. It started by accident and was sort of a fluke.. but then I just kept going with it, and here we are 3 years later.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am happy to cook, share travel stories, and entertain you with some of my more laughable life choices. Also have been known to absentmindedly tidy up places, so that's a bonus for you too.
