About Me

I'm nothing special, an average man trying to find my place & meaning on the world. Like to travel (but I'm no Indiana Jones), bike, love reading, listen to various kinds of music (mostly world music, jazz, soul and folk... I don't stick to genres too much) and play in small band. Although I'm growing older I still like to wander.
Recently I live with my almost-wife, her mother and a cat "mistr Micinka" in an old house with large garden, so I'm never bored :)
Did I mention that I'm an introvert? No? Well, I am one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

At first, i joined because we were going to make sort of a journey 'round Germany, France, Italy and Austria with the kids at Summer holidays few years ago; I wanted to meet new people, make some new experience and learn something new. It kind of didn't met the expectations of my (now ex)wife. I'm not much of an adventurer, my inner life is richer than my experiences in real life, I'm afraid. But I still like to meet people, who are searching for some meaning in they life and who are not very sure about anything.
And, last but not least, we are not Rothschilds, just a social worker and a teacher, we travel on a tight budget...

Music, Movies, and Books

I like mostly indie music, but also R&B, hip-hop, jazz &nu jazz... you name it. From Louis Armstrong, Erik Truffaz, Nils Frahm, Tracy Chapman, through Tindersticks, Beirut, Tom Waits, Neil Young, Daughter, to Dead Can Dance, DJ Krush, Nujabes, Foo Fighters, Manu Chao, The Roots... gosh, I don't have whole evening for it, sorry.
Movies? Ok, japanese and generally asian, Ghibli, Takeshi Kitano's films. Westerns, Jim Jarmush, detective storries, war movies, Scorseese, Ridley & Tony Scott, Coens, Allen, Linklater... uff...
Books. Hmm. I love books - didn't I mention it yet? Favorite books... rather favorite writers: Olga Tokarczuk, Kawabata, Camus, Murakami, Bukowski, Ken Kesey... W. Whitman, Nanao Sakaki, T.S. Eliot... Petr Borkovec, Václav Kahuda, Petr Hruška, Ivan Blatný... to mention some of Czech writers and poets... There is still so many to discover...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I didn't do anything particularly amazing. But I made it to my late forties physically and mentally healthy, with two amazing children.

Teach, Learn, Share

Learning English, Spanish, Japanese, Polish - nothing really intensively, but persistently. Learning japanese calligraphy. I also learn to play trumpete. I did Aikido for some time... hopefully get back to something like this.
