CURRENT MISSION

To stay sane in the mad world. Traveling helps. Also, I am starting my PhD in Sociology at the University of Durham. I am looking forward to meet new people in the North of England and travel around as much as possible.

ABOUT ME

Hello everyone! My name is Karel and I live in Brno, Czech Republic. I have recently finished my studies of sociology in London. In last few years, I had an opportunity to travel in the West (UK, Canada, US). I feel that now it's a time to hit the East (so far I have been to Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia and Hungary). I love people, long nights spent talking, listening, laughing and well, drinking too. I love music, both listening and producing. I am a proud member of Food not Bombs group in Brno. I care about people's views and I am always eager to meet new inspiring friends.

PHILOSOPHY

I feel quite strongly that human beings should resist pressure on commodification and rationalization of their lives, as these pressures are getting stronger and stronger in our society.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have met wonderful people who hosted me in Canada and United States. I have enjoyed hosting surfers in Brno. I am very happy that I had an opportunity to meet such wonderful people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I enjoyed all of my stays through CS. I met wonderful people who made my visits even more fruitful experience. I hope to stay in touch with them and meet more people like them in the future.

兴趣

My field of study, Sociology and Political Science, was probably my biggest interest in few last years . I am interested in discovering new, non-traditional perspectives on life, society, politics. I am proud and happy to volunteer as a member of our local Food not Bombs group. We collect vegetarian food that would otherwise go to waste and provide it to those who need it! I believe there is no legitimate excuse for letting people to starve in developed societies. I am struggling to get back to one of my most important hobbies - music. Currently, I am trying to learn basics of digital synthesis and digital music production and to do some progress with piano.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Spent an amazing travel/work summer in England with my friend after the first year at UNI. It was my first longer time abroad and it was wonderful. Even though work in factories was harsh sometimes, it was incredibly enriching experience. Traveling around south of England was amazing.

I am happy to discuss society, particularly from the perspective of modern social theory. I will happily share my very limited experience of doing music. I would like to learn from people how to make life a more fulfilling experience.

I quite enjoy to cook some simple dishes (do you know borsc?) and I am happy to help with the house chores.
