About Me

I love reading, learning, laughing, chewing gum, cats , people, history, good conversation, cooking and eating, working out, adventure and traveling. I am a- I'll try anything once kind of person.

I have lived in Turkey for almost seven years now. It was my intention when I moved here to use it as a launch pad to visit as many countries as possible since flights are so cheap. It was a dream come true for an American- cheap flights all over Europe and beyond!! Well, things didn't go the way I had planned and that got put on the back burner..... until now!! My youngest kids are at an age where I can leave them for a few days with their dad and it's all good. I am eager to start exploring the world around me. I love to chat with people about random subjects, passions, perspectives, and experiences. I have a relentless curiosity that keeps me constantly entertained- often at my own expense.

Philosophy: The only stupid question is the one you don't ask

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to have what I consider authentic travel experiences. I want to experience the places I visit from a local's perspective and CS is the best platform to use out there. I love to learn pretty much sums me up. I am hoping to find hosts through CS that enjoy hosting, who have a little bit of time to share some of their culture and experiences with me, and who can point me in the right direction. My daughter and I used CS this past summer to meet up with locals in Athens and they were great. They really enhanced our trip and I hope they were able to take something from us.

Bahaha! And now that I think of it, I have already hosted a couchsurfer. We met up with an American woman in Athens that wanted to hang out. Funnily enough she was leaving Athens the same day as us, on the same flight to the tiny podunk town where I live- Bodrum, Turkey. Arrived late to the airport for the departing flight- long after we had checked in, and was assigned a seat with us by chance. The hostel she had planned to stay in was closed when we got to Bodrum so she came to my place and slept on the top bunk in my kid's room. The next morning I drove her to where the paper she printed from the tour company said she should go to check in for her blue cruise- turned out be wrong. Using my Turklish I managed to figure out from one of the port guys where the check in might be- 4 miles away, and drove her there. Dropped her off before they shoved off without her.

Music, Movies, and Books

Kindle unlimited free books will be the death of me.
Thomas Hardy is my favorite author. His book Jude the Obscure is my all time favorite. Les Miserables and The Count of Monte Cristo are also favorites.
I am currently an avid reader of novels set in the medieval period.
Haruki Murakami all of his books

Big Bang Theory is the funniest tv show EVER.

I don't have a favorite movie, I generally like any movie that makes me laugh. Pulling movies that come to mind at this moment: Maria Full of Grace, Sin Nombre, Spun, Old Yellow, Bad Santa, Confidence, October Skies, and Mr. Peabody

I like pretty much any kind of music that doesn't sound like crap :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Learned to be me and be happy about it

Teach, Learn, Share

I have no particular specialty area but I consider any conversation or experience an opportunity for someone to walk away with something. If we meet up we'll just have to see what happens.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My sense of humor, my undying gratitude for hosting me, good (I hope) conversation, and possibly quite a few other things that are not coming to mind right now. I will definitely be respectful of you, your home, and whatever rules you have set for your guests.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles, Scotland
