About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Attend live musical performances, including a good size, multi venue Festival in Port Angeles, Washington, U.S.A, as well as Open Mics for musicians locally and in other Vancouver Island locations - especially in our beautiful summers. Eric Harper, classically trained Spanish guitarist is one of my very favorite local musicians. I've lapped up numerous International Guitar Nights with outstanding guitarists from Germany Italy, Turkey, U.s.a, Canada and more. Now, I'm connected to a wonderful Syrian-Canadian violinist locally.... it doesn't get any better. Generally that is the highlight of music for me most years.

Socialize; keep travelling as the budget allows. I have an artistic flair, which exposes itself in my choice of colors, fabrics, decor including art pieces and creative sewing. Play some cards, help out where possible, be a good influence on my grandchildren - have fun, cook with them, swim with them ... expose them to community events.

ABOUT ME
Love travelling, am a good listener and conversationalist, a natural researcher; very resourceful. Have volunteered IN Jamaica and FOR Jamaica. (here in Canada).

Interested in social change, music especially live; visual art, architecture, other cultures, getting out in nature, hiking and/or 10 km brisk walks and loads more.

I'm a bit of a foodie; love Thai, East Indian, Jamaican cuisine, pretty well everything. It doesn't have to be expensive. Am a decent cook, but don't want to HAVE to cook.

PHILOSOPHY
Life begins when you go out on a limb; I have definitely taken numerous risks! I am open minded; try to be as non judgemental as possible; HAVE FUN and keep learning. I really enjoy meeting locals in other countries and not just being around other tourists.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
The reason my Response Rate is 33% is because several times I contacted the Surfer directly; and haven't used the 'assigned' format.

I enjoy finding folks I 'click' with or at least finding common topics. Always learn something!

Note: I do not make a practice of building a Friends list on this site. For me, the important part is the actual people I have made good friends with, as a result of this website which is mostly reflected in the References section

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Have hosted 3 official Couchsurfers:
- Mrs E. from New Mexico;
- Judy Casey from Gilbert, Arizona and a friend of hers, also from the U.S.
- Haru Yamada, on student Visa in Canada for a year; Japan is where she hails from. Reference coming, I believe.

Surfed with 4 different CS'ers.

Interests

Live musical performances, Spanish guitar, World rhythms, Blues, R & B, 60's, some classical, a bit of just about everything (very little Country). I've kyaked, cycled, done a lot of boating off S. Van. Island; enjoy visual art. I participate in 10 km (or less) walks/hikes regularly with friends and walking groups.

I look forward to the 'for enjoyment only' easy going choir I belong to. We sing a lot of African marching songs; and a whole host of other easy to pick up 'pieces'.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: absolutely love Spanish Guitar, a versatile violinist... good vocals and lots more.

Read mostly for information; and non-fiction.

Not into that many movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One?
1) Probably my short 'stint' living in the Yukon, complete with snowmobiling; and hitting a moose while 3 of us were driving a 250 miles on a lonely road in very terribly cold conditions.

2) Being a passenger enroute to a wedding in Treasure Beach, Jamaica; driving from Montego Bay Airport with 30 yr. relatives who had never driven that road before either. Some of it was in the dark. I would say, this experience 'takes' the cake.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a natural researcher and "information junkie"

Remains to be seen what I know that is valuable to you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When I stay at a Host's home, I am very conscious and respectful of other people's space; and like to treat a Host in some way; I don't think you will be disappointed. I have been invited back to several Hosts homes, that I have come to know.

Countries I’ve Visited
