About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Focusing on school while staying balanced in my life

ABOUT ME

I lived in Chicago from 2003-2007 for school, good pals, and good times. I headed to Italy for a six month exploration and then came back to live at home here in Michigan so I could save some cash before attending school in New York starting this January '09.

Muskegon is not exactly the fun capitol of America BUT my mom rocks and its been pretty great to spend time with her. What else... things I do: Mushroom hunting. Studying medicinal foods and herbs. I really enjoy our Sweetwater farmers market here. It is the only all organic all local farmers market in Michigan and I dutifully participate in supporting our farmers. Michigan produce, maple syrup, our berries and cherries are all amazing benefits from living on the mitten. I love to cook. I was raised vegetarian. I've been vegan, all raw, and adjusted my dietary preferences while traveling.. which allows for a truer cultural experience and frankly a delicious one at that! I am very interested in architecture especially innovative housing design. I especially enjoy design which conveys the marriage between the modern and the rugged or worn.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in the law of attraction. What I believe becomes true. So I work at eliminating my limiting or negative beliefs and strengthening beliefs that allow me to progress constructively.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couched surfed a little bit in Italy when I wasn't woofing (working and staying on organic farms). Right now I am using Couch Surfing as a way to get to know New York city while simultaneously attending The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I will be heading to New York once or twice a month with my Mama who will be attending the program as well. She is pretty stoked to try out couch surfing. I hope to couch surf with her to more exotic places in the future but for now its New York city baby! And we are so excited to see what the Big Apple has in store. We have this amazing opportunity to stay with new yorkers at least once a month and we hope by doing so we will get to meet great folks and see all sorts of favorite places, restaurants, museums, and any other nooks and crannies worth us visiting. Host us! Host us!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I really enjoyed the folks I surfed with in Italy. They were friendly and hospitable.

Interests

Basically I hit on this above. I appreciate the arts, food, music, interesting people, friends, reading, travel, health, films, and design. Because my mom Debbie and I will be traveling together, I will add a bit about her. She has been a Midwife for over 30 years. She shares many of the same interests as me with the inclusion of knitting, gardening (super green thumb), reading non-fiction, and womens health. She is my mushroom hunting partner. We are hoping to start our own business together as health counselors.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lucia E El Sexo, Delicatessen, A Very Long Engagement, A la Folie...Pas du Tout, My Summer of Love, Trois Coleurs (Trilogy), The Royal Tenenbaums, Valentin, My Life As a Dog, Zelary, My Own Private Idaho, Igby Goes Down, The Darjeeling Express, The Year My Parents Went on Vacation, Slumdog Millionaire...

Okay plus The Cider House Rules, Legends of The Falls, and Fried Green Tomatoes!

As for TV I can get down with Oprah if she serving up some good advice, Jon Stewart is absolutely necessary, Top Chef is great fun, and Sunday Morning is a nice way to well..begin a sunday morning.

As for the radio: Gotta love This American Life, Radio Lab, The Splendid Table, Hidden Kitchens, Fresh Air, and Speaking of Faith. NPR delivers and we do pledge.

Music: Gillian Welch, Lhasa De Sela, Camera Obscura, Nina Nastasia, Belle & Sebastian, Spoon, Ingrid Michaelson, Iron and Wine, Imogen Heap, Bjork, Mariza, Dolly Parton, Willy Nelson, Johny Cash, plus quite a bit of early 90's nostalgia, plus some R & B and hip hop.

I enjoy mainly non-fiction books, books on health, herbs, psychology, and sprituality. Plus I'm throughly entertained by Cook books and other food porn sources such as Gourmet, Bon Apatit, and a spattering of food blogs. McSweeney's can also make my day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last spring I came across a tiny wet fawn in the woods. It was a once in a lifetime sight to see! Im constantly in awe of life.. its complexity and beauty. Its hard to say just one thing.
