About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to be....as best I can...in the world
ABOUT ME
Hmmm, difficult one...
So, district nursing is what I do as a job. I have a practice that I share with a co-worker in a socially-deprived suburb of Paris. In the 14 years I've been working here, I have come to know that there is very little I alone can do materially to relieve the social depravation of my mostly elderly patients: I don't have wealth, material possessions, power, influence. But I have also come to know that I have an unlimited supply of something that I can give, which does bring relief, if only momentarily, and that is LOVE.
However, I'm also a translator and this I do as a voluntary activity. All the earnings from this activity go towards financing a project I created to help Nepalese women study to be nurses. Through this project I have become close to some wonderful young women and their families in Nepal.
PHILOSOPHY
I believe that how you do what you do is more important than what you actually do.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Coachsurfing isn't about having a bed, I could sleep pretty much anywhere, and have had to at times. It's about the rich and colourful exchanges and long lasting friendships that can develop through being the recipient of hospitality and through allowing others to give something of themselves.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have had some lovely recent experiences couchsurfing in Denmark. A beautiful country with a magnificent coastline. I was able to visit places there with couchsurfer hosts that I would surely never have found on my own. Prior to this, all my couch surfing experience was gained through the "informally" offered and gratefully accepted hospitality I've received from random people I've met on my travels, notably in Japan and Nepal, where people don't offer you their spare couch, they offer you their own bed!!

Music, Movies, and Books
I read a lot and love all my reading, but poetry is my greatest love. Through poetry, we learn to see life through the eyes of others.
I'd like to share this quote with you:
To read a novel, it takes a couple of hours. To read a poem takes an entire life.
Favourite poets: William Carlos Williams, Galway Kinnell, Robert Desnos, Andrew Motion, Jaques Prevert, Thomas Lynch
The last book I stayed up all night to read: Philip Roth, The Plot against America
The last book I spent all day reading: François Maspero, Les Abeilles et la Guêpe
