Hello there!
My name is Karin and I am a 28 wanderer from South Africa. Moved to the states in July of 2017 and have been excited to travel and explore this vast country. My last trip will be this July (2019) before heading back home to South Africa.

I currently work as an Au pair in New York and have been fortunate enough to see most of the East coast traveling up and down. I have done a few trips more inland and west of the country, Like hiking the Grand Canyon and snowboarding on the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. My favorite thing about all my travels is meeting new people and experiencing the true "local" vibes of a town/city. I love learning about different cultures and traveling for e is the best way to learn as opposed to sitting in a classroom trying to learn about it.

I studied Performing Art, then moved into Musical Theatre - loving New York for al it's Broadway shows - I have studied numerous small courses, like Cross Cultural Psychology, Sport Psychology, got my TEFL certificate and even studied make up. I guess I will never stop learning and studying as I plan to do my Teacher in 2020.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My favorite thing about all my travels is meeting new people and experiencing the true "local" vibes of a town/city. I love learning about different cultures and traveling for e is the best way to learn as opposed to sitting in a classroom trying to learn about it.

Since I am currently working as an Au pair, I do not have the biggest budget to support my traveling, therefore i find "couch-surfing" as a great alternative to "travel on a budget" and still get to experience more of this beautiful country.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a big R&B fan and I enjoy Jazz.
My favorite movies are all the Lord of the Rings', The Marvel series and everything Disney. Les Miserables and Into The Woods is also big favorites of mine.
I am a massive Game of Thrones fan, but not a fanatic....even though I guess there are some merchandise that I would definitely buy - and I frequently quote the show... But ultimately Cougar Town is my life, becasue I love wine... suppose that explains why I like GoT too... (not an alcoholic, I just really enjoy a glass of wine from time to time)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I would have to say if was Snowboarding in Colorado! I have done other "adventurous and thrilling" things, like bungee jumping and scuba diving and swimming with sharks, but snowboarding took my breath away.

Also, I must add, I recently did a solo trip trough Arizona - road tripping from Tucson to the Antelope canyons and the Monument Valley, all the way to go Hiking the Grand Canyon and ending it off in Las Vegas.
This trip was exhilarating and I learnt so much about myself , I would recommend it to anyone to do a solo trip like that.
